Forest of Bowland

With it being the last day before the return to work, sun was shining so we headed out for a drive. Took a route from Liverpool up to Clitheroe avoiding the motorways and had a wander round the town and castle. I've never driven the area and we were lucky to not see much traffic. Some great roads and the sun was out although a touch cold.

Will defo have to make some more trips up here I'm the summertime

Recognise those places James , that road up to the fells from Waddington with no cars in front you can really let the car go then at the top over the cattlegrid the view is fantastic before dropping down to Newton Bowland
Next visit aim for Dunsop Bridge then take the road up to Lancaster via Jubilee Tower , that is 20-25 mins of sheer driving pleasure :driving:

Cheers Andy, went down through Dunson Bridge, only downside was that the sun was that low it was difficult to see. Took the road into Garstang then headed back through southport.

The turning to Lancaster is between Newton & Dunsop Bridge , you must have passed it today
There are so many great places out there & rarely would the drive be spoiled by traffic

Nice one James ! You had a good run there and good weather too by the look of your photos. The Forest of Bowland is beautiful and criss-crossed by some superb driving roads. Excellent pubs also...The Inn at Whitewell is a favourite. If your out that way again let me know as Ali and I would love to tag along if we can. Do you get out round North Wales much ? I haven't been over that way since March ' 15 and fancy a run over the Horseshoe Pass etc. Maybe we could organise a run when you get your 3 litre eh ? :driving:

Yes we get out to North Wales quite often. Up over Horseshoe pass, through Llangollen and then down the A5 towards Betws-y-Coed. There's the evo triangle some lovely roads around Blaenau Ffestiniog and the Llanberis Pass. Further on there's some great roads around Nefyn and down to Hells Mouth and Abersoch. That far down and your better with an overnight stop.

I have driven most of those roads and down to Caernarvon and all through Snowdonia...just not as often as I would like ! The road down from Blaenau Fest through Coed y Brenin to Barmouth is a belter too :driving: Nefyn, Hells Mouth and Abersoch are on the Lleyn Peninsula which I don't know at all....that's all the excuse I need to go !

The "forest" name originated from medieval times where the area was used by royals for hunting
There are still forested areas if you get out & find them , the road to Bentham from Slaidburn for one + the Whitewell area another
