Forced induction / turbos

2 litre will need big boost 1.5bar range that engine I'll not swallow 1.5bar intake manifold will leak and ya engine is high compression it won't survive a proper power tune. If you wanted to take it apart and build the engine no reason why u couldn't spank any bmw NA engine.

Breakers may be able to help with an engine - just a thought.

I guess you need to decide what kind of performance / engine characteristics you're looking for then go for that. Good luck...

what about a breakers car and buy from them just the shell/engine/drive after they have sold all the other bits. then you can take the engine/ancilleries/mounts/ecu blah blah blah/ the lot off the 3.0/3.0si/m and put them on yours. you may even luck in on some nice mm seats at the same time.

doing it this way you might be able to keep the costs down with a write off or summat??

Speaking as someone who supercharged their old 3.0 with the ESS kit, I wouldn't waste your time or money. Just upgrade to a 3.0 or Z4M, you'll get a much better package.

I supercharged mine back in 2007 when the price difference was huge, basically £45k for a new Z4M or upgrade my 2003 car for £5k+, so back then it was a no brainer and it really was epically quick, quicker than my Z4M for sure. But it lacked the character the ///M has, LSD etc.

On the other hand, it's nice to have something unique that you've built up, I can appreciate that

I dont know them personally. But i know a guy who has a BMW V8 in e30 and they done the work. They have been swapping and adding forced induction to BMWs for a while. Give them a ring and see what they say.

Laughed when this topic appeared. Seams like it was only last month the original topic was going.

Just buy an M or swap the engine. For what you have spent making it look pretty you might aswell go all the way and put an engine in.

Quit all the talk and just do it!

No point getting something you can get off the shelf like a s54 or m54, get a v8 in there and make it truely unique.

Just make sure you service the new engine

Or just his old 3.0l engine and S/C that???

V8 in a Z4..... what a pointless idea

It really isn't that hard if you don't want big long tube headers.

Jonnny, have you thought about getting a second car that has punches of power?
This way you have cars for what ever mood you're in.
For the money you're looking to spend on putting a V8 into your Z4, you could easily afford a decent V8 car with plenty of power.

I've got a few and they all give me that hit for what mood I'm in. The Z4 gives me roof down fun. For when I want to go for a hoon with more power, I've got a Jag XKR with 5.0 V8 supercharger and tuned to over 600 BHP. If I want full on hands on craziness I grab the keys for my Corvette Z06, this has 7.0 V8 and tuned to nearly 800 BHP.
When I take the family out, I have a customised van!

Being in a lucky position and having owned and currently own a few cars, if I had the funds to put a V8 into a Z4 I wouldn't do it. A V8 is a heavy engine going into a very small car, it would be completely unbalanced. It would take months of expensive tweaking trying to fight the handling, its completely unknown. Both my Jag and Corvette's 12" rear wheels often struggle to plant the torque of those V8's, you'd have a nightmare on the Z4.

The Z4 chassis, in my opinion, is too small to handle so much power and I would feel I'm driving an accident waiting to happen. I feel safe in the Jag, Corvette + all the other V8's I've had. The manufactures spend millions testing these chassis, suspension, brakes etc testing for hours and hours. The car feels safe, if the back end goes I'm still in full control.
If the Z4 chassis was made for a V8, it would have come from the factory this way. Don't put your life in risk if you're not a trained driver.

I have far more fun grabbing the keys to a car that suits my mood. the Z4 puts just a big smile on my face as does the Corvette.
You can pick up some seriously good V8 cars for your proposed engine change money.
If someone mocks you about having a 2.0 engine, show them a pic of your other car...soon shuts them up!!

Thanks jonny and great feedback not some 3L or M owner pissing me off lol
I mite live with her, shes still nippy in low gears and fun :driving:[/quote]

Your 2L is packed with character that the 3L won't have, so also has its strengths. The 3L may have more power, at the end of the day its all down to the driving skills that makes a car faster and more nimble car.

Book some fun lessons in at Brands hatch (not too far from you?) and learn how to get the best from your driving skills.
