Just a comment, to be safe, I wouldn't have your VIN number clearly visible on an open forum along with number plate and car model etc.
Im sure chances are nothing would happen, but to be safe...

Then again it doesn't seem to do any harm, and soon stops once the engine is warm and has been driven a bit.

I'm on my 3rd N52 engine (in my 3 Series) and it tends to happen when it has been sat for a few days.

Great car, new owner is a lucky person at an excellent price & mileage!

Relating to the 'tappet' noise, these tappets can get a bit stuck, I followed good advice and took the car to a remote area and ran the engine (when warm) at 4,000rpm for five minutes. This gets the hydraulic lifters baxk to where they need to be. No more tapping. Also good to run this engine in Shell 99 Ron Super. Stops any 'pinking' (rattling atlower revs under load using torque of engine). Suggested driving slowly through revs up to 4,000rpm. Opens engine up.

Looks great that car, very well prepared. They sold my Coupe many year ago, good to see their still going.
