I have just come accross this little beauty in my garage. I was hanging on to it on the assumption that I was at some point going to get another Z4 but this seems less and less likely so I want to let it go to a new home where it can roar once again!

I found the kit makes a wonderful 'howl' when you nail it... it really lets a Lambo style roar out. Otherwise with typical acceleration you won't notice it! Possibly due to the design it seems to amplify the sound of the throttle body opening so you might notice a momentary 'whisp' noise when you accelerate, very subtle though.

The filter element is Dacron and does not require oiling.

I'm was experimenting with the best way to fit the filter, RD claim it's a straight replacement of the air box, perhaps I was missing a trick here but I found I needed a 90 degree reducing elbow from Samco to get it fitted. I'll include the elbow joint with the deal even though it was £40!

I purchased it from EVO S for £315 inc delivery, it was fitted to my car for less than 3 months before we parted company :(

I will let it go for £140 + £10 delivery which is an abolute bargain considering in total it set me back about £350!

Here's some pics of it fitted:

Please ask any questions.

Also available for collection in Oxford.

Having thought about it in more detail the unit was only actually fitted to the car for approx one month, and has done between 500-1000 miles - certainly no more. It might as well be new!

SO you dont think it will fit a 3.0i? If using a samco hose, why wouldn't it fit?

It did fit without the samco elbow but it was really tight if memory serves correctly. It fits fine with the samco elbow - I suggest you experiment - my car wasn't exactly standard! Perhaps you won't need the samco - perhaps you will. Either way it is intended for engines larger than 2.2 and prior 2006. That's not to say it won't fit others - it's a cone filter at the end of the day... if you are prepared to tinker you could probably fit it to whatever you wanted but for the purposes of the sale I can only reiterate what the manufacturer states which is:

2.2/2.5/3.0 >2006

and say that as with any mod you might have to 'tinker' to get it perfect...

The pictures show how it sat in my 3L using the samco elbow.

If you don't sell it in the next few weeks I might be even more tempted.

Forgot to ask does it affect the sound generator ? Do the two sounds work together?

unlikely to increase power output noticeably...

the sound generator only transmits sound to the cabin. on the afe intake i fitted you got a little filter to put over it where the join to the ait filter pipe was removed.

so i don't really understand your second question.... :)

The induction noise will compliment the sound generator, but I doubt the noise would over power a modified sound generator

Sorry not up to speed on how all these things work, what I was asking was will fitting one of these intakes affect my sound generator ie will I still enjoy that lovely howl in the cockpit as I do now or is it a case of one or the other but not both?

i'm not sure with this particular model, but it shouldn't be an either or situation..you would still enjoy the noise of the engine.

they should work together, the seller should be able to confirm whether there is any provision for the sound generator pipe in this kit (not sure when BMW introduced the sound generator, if it was pre 06 then there may be nothing to plug the pipe), however, to find a small filter that fits on the end of it shouldn't present a problem.
