I'll try! I might do a before/after/internal/external - it will also give me a chance to check out my iphone mount for our 'Ring trip

You need one of these.....(as do I)

Tony, shocked you bought these loud chavvy boxes lol. I thought i was the only scouser deaf enough to put up with a loud loud exhaust.

They do look and sound great, hope the local residents of Woolton aren't too upset when you set off early in the morning. :o

I'd love one, but the app I've got is for the iPhone (Harry's Lap Timer Pro) and the iPad (Harry's Lap Timer Trainer), so I'm 'stuck' with what I've got - unless I go all the way and get a Racelogic Video VBOX or such.

I've also got a bluetooth OBC dongle to talk to the iPhone, so that it give me much more info (throttle position, revs, etc.) than just the basic 'g' meter functions.

I'm mounting my iPhone on a RamMount (with an extension piece though) on the side/front/rear windows to see what it looks like.

I like a loud exhaust, but promised myself that I wouldn't 'waste' money on modifying again. But after 4 years I've realised the Z4MC noise is too muted and needs something doing to it. Hence my interest in the Simota intake and muffler bypass pipes.

Stop talking about it, thats exactly why I wanted it and why I still want it. I'll end up keeping it at this rate! ;)

Too late!

I know where you live now, so either way I'm having them. If you're lucky, I'll leave your wheels alone

:( Just took these off and put the oem ones back on. Its too bloody quite now :( Not to mention all that extra weight :headbang: There is something really depressing about 'de-modding' your car

Might compromise and get some 1inch diameter bypass pipes

Thanks for these Mark. Your loss is my gain, but I'm sure you'll find something fruity for the M3.

I could have left my bypass pipes with you so you could do a double bypass :P

Guys,

I was hoping to bring you some before & after audio clips today, but I'm going to have to wait a while until I can get the 'after' clips, as the brackets that hold the back-box to the centre-pipes are completely cracked, and will need to be replaced/welded before I can fit the Diablos.

Sorry, but here are the 'before' clips (in AAC/MP4 format) to tease you (all done on a closed/private road/track, once car was up to temp.)...

Clip 1 - Internal: revving (standard)
Clip 2 - External: revving (standard)
Clip 3 - External: 0-60 (standard)
Clip 4 - Internal: 0-60 (standard)
Clip 5 - Internal: driving in 3rd/4th from 1500-2500rpm - and ambient test (standard)

Now put on Youtube to save having to download each clip individually - you still can of course.

Awesome, can't wait to hear it with the Diablos!!!!

What's cracked on yours then? I'm trying to work out what section they are referring to that holds the back box to the centre section?

It's the part that the bolts go through that force the two flanged elements together. This bit...

Both of mine are cracked (one on 1 side, and one on 2 sides) - it looks like it's not covered by warranty, and it's only sold as part of the centre-pipe / x-piece.

Off topic, but that top pic is pure Z porn mmm-five
Not my photo - just lifted it off the Rogue Engineering website to annotate.

The cruddy/well-used one below is mine :P

It's very unlikely that I'm going to get these fitted before my 'Ring trip - which is what I was really hoping for, as I wanted to do some videoing/data-logging with Harry's Track Timer, but they'll still be fitted and I'll just have to enjoy them on my 200+ mile commutes.

Finally got these fitted whilst I was getting my diff replaced under warranty, disks & pads all round (pads had plenty of life on them, but I always replace pads when I put new disks on), oil leak from a loose VANOS bolt under warranty (plus engine bay clean), RTABs that were rotten, wheels completely stripped and refurbished, etc.

Required cutting off of the brackets/bolts and some custom stainless work to merge the pipes. The brackets on the x-pipe were completely rotten, and the cracks look like they've been there a few years. The same brackets on the back boxes were solid and looked to be of a much better quality.

They sound wonderful, especially through tunnels. There's a lovely rumble if you accelerate from low revs (i.e. 1500-2500rpm), and gets louder as it warms up, but it quietens down nicely when your not in a playful mood, and dies off a bit at higher revs so you don't burst your eardrums. Nice bit of popping and banging on trailing throttle too

Should get the 2nd lot of sound clips done this weekend, which will be of the same format/location/methodology.

Don't really want to listen to the clip if you do post it. Will just make me more jealous I missed these bad boys!

Finally got the Diablos fitted, so here's the before & after all in one place - although I seem to have deleted the wrong external clip and am left with the tickover one instead of the revving one (I blame the person who called me in the middle of it - who probably got an earful of Diablo).

Please forgive the lack of tyre spinnage on the 0-60-0 on the Diablo test, but it was damp and the road is very narrow.

Sorry for the small size of this last photo, but it was a quick shot by someone else when they were getting fitted - you can just about see the shiny new diff too.

Sorry mate but i thought that video was hilarious.

"Test 1 etc etc"

"Test 2 etc etc"

"Test 8233. Diablo Exhausts. Completely corroded due to age. Have fallen off the car. 0-72. Microphone strapped inside the Simota intake. Take #16."

:poke:

Jokes aside that was pretty helpful.

Good comparison
I'm still a little upset you snapped these up so quickly, I didn't even get time to check down the back of the sofa for some pennies to aford them  :P

They sound great 8)

Simota clips will have to wait until I receive/fit it - although I'm not sure whether you'll be able to hear it over the exhausts - although they will also follow the Test 1...Test 5 format as that seems popular

I originally only commented on the clips so I could remember what they were, but didn't bother editing it out.

I did however edit out any instances where I got the giggles from going sideways with the traction off and my foot to the floor

Car is filthy, despite it being clean a week/1000 miles ago.

If I get a perforated ear-drum, or the neighbours come around with pitchforks, I'll make sure you get first refusal.

Tunnels are a lot of fun too :P
