Hi,

I am currently selling my BMW E86. The car has 75000 miles and MOT until Decemeber. I've owned the car for several years and I am very sad to be selling it. The only reason for the sale is that I have recently moved abroad and no longer using the vehicle.

Highlights of the car
- Custom Exhaust
- Maxton Design Bodykit
- Great colour combination with Grey exterior, black and red interior.
- Great set of wheels

Full transparency- The car is marked has cat C and was in a crash before I owned it. The car has been fixed perfectly and is in really good condition. I've had 0 issues over the last four years and looked after it well. Without me telling you, you wouldn't even notice any prior damage.

Cat C has a massive impact on value, so your asking price is very high and unrealistic.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but most people on this forum will try and be helpful and that’s what I’m doing here. There are a lot of unsold E86’s that have sat around for ages, most don’t have cat markers.

You need to go back to the drawing board and do some more research on pricing for these.

Hey Thanks for feedback :)

Pricing is always difficult, I saw one on autotrader sell for a several k more a while back with way more mileage that was stock and a worse colour combo this one has. Even though this is Cat C I have spent a fair bit on modifications. I am open to negotiation and more than happy for people to make offers.

If people here value the price is going to drop drastically I will of course be gutted and that is where I will need to consider just keeping it as this has always been my dream car. All I can do at this point is gauge where people and the market think it's valued at.

Modifications are a very personal thing, and some add no value to resale and may make a car less desirable to the wider market.

What a car is advertised for and what it sells for are two completely different things, and sometimes people just give up with a private sale or trade in; So the car you refer to may not have sold at all or might have sold for far less than advertised at.

The market is telling you it is priced too high, no one has bought it.

If you started a ‘what’s it worth?’ Thread I think you’d be horrified by the majority of the responses.

Your best option is probably to keep it and enjoy it, genuinely.
 
Yeah I fully agree, you can see me dropping the price regularly to find the right value and willing to drop further if needed.

I would rather start high and drop based on the feedback than put it on for insanely low and loose a lot if that makes sense. If it's a case that people think it's worth nothing due to the cat c despite the really good repair and improvements it's had. I'm happy to listen to the market and then at least I know and I can just keep and enjoy the car myself haha.

I moved over to Vietnam for work and not sure when I will be back which is the only reason I am parting ways with it. Currently driving motorbikes over there.
 
I think the mods are very marmite, this combined with the cat C and relatively high ask is the problem.
Interior looks great with the leather dash, xenon’s and mileage is lowish.

I would also recommend adding more information on the advert ie. service history and any other key maintenance items that have been completed. The mods don't add any value to most people imo, spend on maintenance is more important and attractive to a buyer.

I have to agree with others, you need to be more realistic price, at over £10k you will be competing with some vgc standard cars with good history with no insurance marker so no surprise you've have had no interest.

I think it’s a great looking car and the cat c really wouldn’t bother me as I’d be buying it to drive and not closet it because of the relatively low mileage.
But cat markers are a huge no no for some and that has an impact the price people are willing to pay.
I’ve been looking to sell mine and absolutely no interest and yet a regular dealer of Z’ s has a PY the same as mine , yes it’s lower mileage and better spec/ condition but 5K more ! But because it’s a “ dealer” will probably sell for some reason?
 
First GLWS, but to put the asking price into context, one of the very last sold recently for £14500, perfect colour combo of Monaco Blue & Champagne, mint condition with every extra and full dealer history. It had done approx 33k miles. From a respected dealer in Scotland, with warranty.

With the marker & mods, the asking price is around £5-6k off where it needs to be, to get it sold. Sounds harsh, but it’s been on AT forever for a reason.

There have been some nice and well cared for examples sell fairly quickly in recent months for around £7k with 100k miles.

As others have said it’s priced strongly for a CatS

If it were mine I would return it back to standard, remove the body kit and go back to OEM wheels.

I think at £9990 and standard you may get some interest
