Well after all this time I'll admit I'm not up to speed on these, so be gentle please. :roll:

Are these what I have on my MC in this photo? (Please excuse the dirt on the car BTW - I'd just driven it home 140 miles from Leicestershire in the rain).

No, you've got the standard side skirts. Aero skirts have a more pronounced fold line running along the length of the skirt, from the tail end forward, around the middle of the panel.

I'm gutted these came up and disappear as I had just committed my car in to paint at a fairly hefty price - the side skirts are being repainted, and if I had seen these come up for sale probably would have grabbed them and included them in the job!!

I bought a brand new set from BMW about 4 years ago, primed ready to go. Sat in my garage for 2 years doing nothing but getting in the way. Sold them on at cost 2 years ago. What could have been...

When I was a kit growing up, my hard earned pocket money was easily spent on frivolous items like model cars, sweets and ice cream. Both my father and grandfather continually lectured me on my spendy ways, and I can still remember this ancient proverb " a fool and his money are easily parted" and you could well apply it here with in insane prices being asked for aero skirts.
If you are prepared to do a little bit of detective work a set of these can be acquired for less than half the price for the asking here. Just my two cents worth.

Have you heard the ‘Ancient proverb’ strike while the iron is hot too..? Tell you what, you find me another set within the next 3 months, in the right colour as these ones are for anything near this ask and I’ll buy them off you for whatever you want Ok..?

This Forum has so much to answer for. I wonder how many members have been brought close to bankruptcy purchasing items they couldn’t live without? How many marriages have been put under strain because of our spending on our beloved cars? Not to mention those members who have been ‘economic’ with the truth when informing their loved ones how much they paid for an item. :wink:

I consider it payback... for all the times I’ve heard ‘I’ve had that for ages, you not remember it?

... plus fortunately my Mrs still hasn’t noticed the car I bought without originally telling her got new boots in Anthracite last year...

I genuinely think 99% of people would have a hard time noticing the difference between OEM and Aero side skirts

In grey its a bit more distinguishable but in black it just looks very similar to stock unless under specific lighting

Rarity of the item justifies the price but I think the hype behind these things is a bit overblown on this forum lol

Supply (now 0) & demand (over 25 if you look at a thread last year)

Historically the forum’s always been about subtle mods, with the preference for OEM & alternative M parts... though agree colour’s a huge factor in Aeros... just wish I’d not sold my old 3.0 with its Aeros, hindsight egh...

You say that but items like these and folding roof covers go for more on eBay, it’s not just a forum thing.

Well yeah, but then again half the people shopping on ebay also have this forum bookmarked

Don't get me wrong, the side skirts are nice and as mentioned the rarity justifies the price but they're just basic cosmetic upgrade you don't even notice with a black car

I have removed the OEM side skirts, it really isn't a premium piece to start off with. The Aero Side skirts are special because its hard to find, nothing more. If BMW had thousands stockpiled in a warehouse and tried to sell them, demand would be very low and they'd just sit there.
