Cars are quicker around the ring , it's the bench mark testing ground , or at least it was until the speed limits came in !

In all honesty some of that response sounds like it came from the guy in the first video.

I think the thing is Tim is that you don't ride and as you said, don't get it. From you comments I don't think you'd ever get it as you have made up your mind (I mean this totally sincerely and am not having a pop).
Anyhow I'll try to explain:
Bike appeal to people in different ways, just as cars do to people.
For me, my Z4 is my "normal car" I don't find it all that fast or "special", but a nice to have compromise between performance and comfort. Others find it fast, others like the look, others the blend of BMW and RWD and some it is a dream car.
Just the same with bikes, some like the freedom, others the convenience, others the economy, some like straight line speed, others leaning over knee down in a corner, some just like the camaraderie (I've met a couple of great friends and a plumber because I ride).
If you want to know what appeals, then you'll get a myriad of answers.
But as before until you ride, you can't fully appreciate the performance difference, not just the outright speed but the manouverability. Sometimes (and I stress sometimes, because as you said many bikers, mainly the summer bikers don't use the speed responsibly) a pass may look close from back in a car, but on a bike it is an easy pass.
Just the same as when someone sees a Z4 coming up, not realising that it has more than average power and will/can pass easily.
So you focus on the negatives, yes it is more dangerous, we (should and I do) wear protective clothing. Yes you may laugh of us whilst we're getting ready to go out, but these are things we accept because we get something else out of it.
Sadly, as you said many bikers fail to be able to use the speed sensibly. What you have to bear mind is that the what at a distance may appear as not sensible is in fact an easy feat on a bike, especially a high powered one.
As pointed out before, yes a car can hoof it round a round about faster than me on my bike, but I have a 3.0 BMW, a 4.0 V8 and mumble, mumble 1.6 for those days. And for the rainy days Goretex and a less shiny bike. So for me best of all worlds.
Many people seem to object to bikers, rather than just let them go. It's those people that truly scare me on the road.

Thanks for the reply and explanation, I've owned a moped, does that count?
but really only ever been on the back of a mates bike with any serious go which was enough to convince me of the unappealing side. I totally get why yourself and others enjoy biking though but I put biking alongside camping :? its just one of those things that doesn't appeal but then its same analogy that people don't get convertibles, were all different Tim.

Sometimes I am asked what I like about bikes and cant actually say, I have owned bikes since I was 16 so its just normal to me.
One thing you said though Tim was about a bike outdragging a car and whats the point. You could ask exactly the same thing of anybody with a powerful car with turbos and superchargers who just want more BHP.
Another thing that people who havnt ridden bikes dont realise is the stability that you have at speed. In my opinion it is far safer to ride at 100mph on a bike than a car. I mean this by the way the bike reacts to road undulations and inconsistencies in the road surface. A bikes suspension only has to go up and down while travelling over uneven roads and can also pick a smoother line between rough patches due to only having two wheels. A car as well as the suspension going up and down also moves the car from side to side and is also somewhat stuck to a certain path on the road and sometimes cannot pick a smooth passage. Try breaking heavily from high speed in a car and you can wander over the road trying to stay straight, on a bike it is very smooth.
