I had a jar of Major Greys Chutney, I kept it unopened and refrigerated for it's entire life then I opened it and served it with a meal to my now wife. It tasted great and she liked it , until she looked at the expiry date on the jar then all hell broke loose..... it was only 9 years old, what's the problem, the jar was still sealed and had been in a fridge the whole time, it didn't even break when I moved houses ....
