Supposedly it can be done. Topic elsewhere advises that it's a programable feature http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=571194

Infact I'm at Eastern tomorrow so I will ask

Angie did you ask at eastern ?

Never understood why they don't fold in automatically. Surely that's the point of speccing them, so they do just that!

Hiya, yes I did and they said it couldn't be done. They also said it wouldn't work with re-wiring but that's possibly not true as I've seen that work on the 8th gen Civic, however as the smart top can fold the mirrors automatically it's clearly software.

I need them to look at my passenger side comfort access as it opens but does not lock on that side so a word with a technician using the diagnostics might show up some program options. Or I might ask a contact of my dad that owns a Indy German car garage and has ex bmw techs and he himself is ex bmw and keeps things up to date.

This seems to be a bit of a conspiracy!!! As you say the smarttop tells the existing motors through the existing wires that when it locks fold the mirrors. It must be possible to code it. Did the op come back and say how it's done?

It's clearly something they don't want to do but yes it has to be coding. The OP hasn't come back on and advised how or where they got the information and who did it.

I would suggest the following app, which has plenty of other options to keep you busy too!

http://www.ivini-apps.com/coding.html

You will need an iPad/iPhone or an Android device and a cheap Bluetooth OBD2 adapter. The app is relatively easy to use, and allows you to test before purchase.

Have you tired this one yourself? I've got everything that I would need to make this work, but the test one doesn't mean that if I shell out £35 that it will work so feedback would be appreciated

Ive decided to make my mirrors fold only on command when the smarttop is fitted.
Reasoning that if i stop on the roadside and want to open the door,i want a look down the side of the car first!

Which is the right thing to do IMO. I was going to set up some Diagnostics software on my Mac but if the App works then it will save me a lot of effort.

Do you need some sort of adapter to connect to lite?

Yes you will still require a bluetooth OBD2 reader

Thanks

Think I will wait till someone explains how it's done b4 investing. Not very technical.

Yes, like that. Once I know if it's any good I'm willing to give it a bash.
