Folding mirrors POST NOW CLOSED

I have these on my Zed but although I can pull them in when driving slowly they don't operate above 20mph. Also once they're retracted they spring open again when you increase speed past 20 or so.
Is there a way I can get them to go in and stay in until I want them out? There have been many times when oncoming vehicles are either taking up a lot of the road or where there are branches etc sticking out. I've lost count of the times I've knocked my n/s one on the van but I can manually pull the o/s one in until the road widens - can you still do that on electrically operated ones?
 
There is a reason they redeploy over 20 mph and I think you'll find most cars with that facility do.
My question would be, if you require the mirrors in to get through the gap, why are you still travelling in excess of 20 mph?

Fold in and out*
Press button 2.
Possible up to approx. 15 mph/20 km/h.
For example, this is advantageous
▷ In car washes.
▷ In narrow streets.
▷ For folding back mirrors that were folded
away manually.
Mirrors that were folded in are folded out auto‐
matically at a speed of approx. 25 mph/40 km/h
 
Yeah, I read the manual and saw the criteria for operating them but wanted to know if there was a trick to be able to get them in quickly. Had a case last week in the van where 2 vehicles could pass safely but there was a branch sticking out of the nearside hedge. Saw it at the last minute but luckily the van mirrors were higher than the branch so no problem. It would have been if I'd been in a car. This was in a 60mph zone. I don't need to have the tips of the mirrors touching the hedges to judge how wide the car is but I'm also not going to travel on A and B roads in a national speed limit area at below 20mph in order to keep the mirrors folded. If nothing is coming toward you why would you drive excessively slowly just in case something comes into view? If you know how wide the road is, and you know 2 vehicles can pass in a normal situation why do you think it's wrong to want to pop the mirrors in until you clear the narrow part of the road, for added clearance should you need to move out due to potholes etc, but whilst keeping up with traffic?
Nothing is going to overtake you so the door mirrors are pretty much superfluous on the narrow part.
I've had a Transit van before with elec folding mirrors and they came in and out at any speed, so it can be done.

What if there was a motorbike weaving past the traffic and you were to swerve out to avoid they branch or pot hole

I've come to convertibles from motorbikes so am probably more aware of bikes in the vicinity of whatever I'm driving, but especially with the roof down. The variety of high hedged roads we have here in Devon can make some people feel "hemmed in", but you can make decent progress if you concentrate. Having ridden all types of bikes over 35 years I can pretty much tell when a bike might try to nip past even if I haven't heard or seen him coming.
Anyway, we could go on for ages about this so I'd appreciate a short answer to my original question - is there a way to get the mirrors in above 20mph? I could do that on a 2010 Mini Cooper so the BMW group have history of this.
 
If you drive so fast down narrow lanes that you hit your wing mirrors, I hope I am never coming towards you :thumbsdown: :thumbsdown:

You're not really getting this, are you.....

The roads I'm relating to are not narrow, they're wide enough for 2 cars to pass even if at times there are no white lines in the middle. If you travel below 20mph to put your mirrors in, just in case, you will get rear ended. People who know the roads will be moving a bit quicker than that and in all honesty it's perfectly safe, but as an added precaution I'd like at times to pop the mirrors in. Not because I can't drive, not because I'm going too fast, not because I don't want to see what's behind me. It's because I don't want them damaged by a hedge or someone coming the other way who is a bit far over.
If you want to potter around at 20mph out in the country, fine. I won't, as it's not safe nor is it keeping up with the traffic flow.

Now, does anyone know of a fix or are we going to spend the rest of the evening being sanctimonious about levels of driving?

To answer your original question, from what I know the short answer is no! I have not seen anything in Carly or Carista that will allow you to do this, don't know about some of the other coding equipment.
 
If you go back to your first post you should be able to edit the header.

If the wing mirrors open over 20mph due to an automatic electrical signal to them, then you will be able to code it out. The trick is knowing what the command is in NCS Expert :)
 
Measured my E85 and E89. In both cases the door mirrors project a little less than 3 inches further than the rear arches.
I am not suggesting driving everywhere at 20 mph.
But if a vehicle approaching me is using so much road that I need to consider moving the mirrors in, I think my priority would be keeping both hands on the wheel for full control, and slowing as much as possible in the time available (in a safe manner).
Or I could carry on regardless, and remove one hand from the wheel to operate the mirror fold. Hmmmm?
 
This thread lost me a long way back. I still have no idea why the OP wishes to fold the wing mirrors in above 20mph. A slightly pointless and perhaps slightly dangerous pursuit for no viable reason, other than maybe you can. :?
