Folding Mirrors have a mind of their own...

For a while now whenever I turn off my ignition, or sometimes when closing the drivers door, my wing mirrors have started to fold in automatically. And then out again. And then in again... And so forth on for five or six times. This was annoying, but I ignored it. It's recently started doing it also when I start the car - the mirrors try to fold in, I press the button part way through their journey and they move out again, before immediately moving in again and so on.

They've started doing it now whilst I'm driving along, even at motorway speeds, so I need to fix them. Any ideas? A Google search came up with http://xdrivers.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=88.0 which seems to be the similar problem on the X5 but wondered if anyone else had seen something similar?
 
Never heard of this before but can only suggest a disconnect of the battery for 20 mins and mary rest the various electrical components other than that.... :?
 
Dang, I wish my mirrors would fold in when I lock the doors; it would save me me having to open the damn door again to push the damn button... :D
Just a thought but have you tried using a different key just incase it's some rogue programming in the key?

I think you're right, but I wish it would stop flirting as I drive along :lol:

Seriously though, thanks for the good suggestions so far -tried removing the battery overnight, and using a different key without success. Any other suggestions?
