Personally I prefer the folding tin tops. If you want a practical car with a decent boot don't by a convertable... :)

Kind of an odd statement given the fact that the Z4 was designed to have a good-sized, usable trunk.

IMHO if I wanted a folding hard top I would have bought one.

I like the classic combination of soft top and roadster - Particularly if there is a colour contrast, but then I am biased

I'll let you guess where my vote went

Folding hard top probably, depending on looks. Whichever they make though can they please allow it to operate when the car is moving? :headbang:

I heard the folding roof on the new California will only take 14 seconds to operate so they don't have to be slow.

...I'd say the new SLK is the only car that's managed to pull off a hard top that looks better...
I agree (obviously!).

I think only the SLK and the SL look any good (and maybe MX-5), the other cars (especially 4 seaters) just look wrong. 206, 207, 307, Focus, Golf, Megane, they all look awful.
My girlfriend had the new Vauxhall Tigra with the folding hard top. That looked OK. A bit of a girly car mind and build quality was rubbish!

Hey Spec,
I voted. The total votes is three but the indivdual count for each type remains ? No Votes...

I think you have a bug...
I did it like the photo competition so that nobody knows who is in the lead until the poll ends (7 days)

ok, I have not posted a poll yet, so I don't know the ins and outs of it...
Yep,thought it might be more fun to hide the results until it ends, although I'm pretty certain it'll be 70/30 in favour of the soft top though.

Awful

Hope it wasn't a 1.4?

I'm undecided.
I can get the roof down on either so have the best of both worlds of sun and weather protection
Hard tops are more secure, probably quieter but take boot space and are soooo slow.
Soft tops look 'right' and seem right on a roadster

I think for me it would be less of an issue so long as it looked good and did not end up looking like a compromised coupe when up.

more expensive to buy, likely more complicated and more expensive to fix, as someone mentioned many obvious lines from the joints that surely make it far less attractive than the coupe, it would probably take longer to open and close and not to mention more weight. I say make it an option for those who want it, but have cloth standard for me.

Maybe they'll do what Vauxhall did with a Tigra  Knowing that UK buyers prefer a fabric top (I believe because it's more instantly recognisable as a convertible) they took the standard folding hard top Tigra roof and covered it in fabric

I'm not kidding either

Goddammmittt still a couple of days 'til this poll ends

Anyone who hasn't already voted please do so - registered members with zero posts don't worry, if you vote it won't count as a post :poke:

I must of missed this thread earlier ... anyway just voted. I much prefer the soft top. It's part of what makes a roadster a roadster.

Well 23 to 18 was a lot closer than I expected it to be TBH. Looks like the new Z4 might be a success after all, even if it only comes with a hard top.
