Passenger side folding mirror didnt come down today after work, I have booked it in at the BWM garage next to work (convenient) is there anything I can try before I get my pant pulled down? The motor sounds like its still whirring it just seems to get jammed?

Yes, I tried helping to no avail, I have just managed to get it into the down position by pushing while its supposed to be in the up position, doing this while its supposed to be jammed doesn't work at all. how easy are these to take apart and out?

This happened on my M5 (fortunately under warranty). Needed a whole new mirror housing, plus painting to match the car. Total cost was circa £1,200. Apparently there are no serviceable parts within the mirror housing.

Ouch!

I dunno looks like there are on the parts website, I have had a play and the motors still working it just catching somehow when up if i slow it so it doesnt go up all the way it will go back down too, must be something worn inside im guessing, need a guide on how to get them off and open though.

Scotthall BMW in Eastleigh. The same mirror housing is now vibrating, and both Scotthall and Woods of Salisbury BMW have said that my extended warranty doesn't cover it because it is classed as "trim" (despite being an MoT requirement!) Both have quoted for a replacement mirror housing as the only solution. That's not to say that an independent garage who can use a bit of initiative might not be able to come up with a fix.

I had a problem with the wing mirror on my Porsche 944 many years ago - it would adjust up and down but not left and right. i was quoted over £100 (which seemed like a huge amount of money at the time) to fix. I dismantled it myself, found that a small piece of plastic had broken, superglued a small nail in place, and it was still working fine when I sold the car some years later.
