FOGGED HEADLIGHTS ?.... SOLUTION

when i got my car all the front lights were badly fogged ! so i set about them with the hairdryer and dried them out but the passenger headlight kept fogging back up so of ebay i got 3x 50 g bags of silica gel and cable tied one into the back of the light housing ! that was about 2 weeks ago and no problems since :D

but then dont you see the bags inside the fog lights if you look?

Mine is in the garage next week to get mine changed under the warranty.

Good idea for drying out residula moisture, but I'd want to be sure I'd fixed the problem be that a badly seated inspection hatch, trapped wire, aged seal, etc.

almost certainly be fixed by replacing the headlight cover seal at the back - about £10 from the dealer for a new back and seal.

i agree what your saying and i will get a new seal when next at the dealers but will leave silica in just in case :D

I did a similar fix back in june. My method was to get one of those dehumidifying boxes you get for caravans/wardrobes etc. I emptied a golf ball sized amount of the crystals into a stocking and tied it to the back of the housing. I did this at the same time as hairdrying all of the moisture out and resealing the housing with a very thin layer of PVA glue. Possibly a sledgehammer to crack a nut but have had no problems in 6 months.

If it happens again or i need to change a bulb then ill probably just buy some new housings.

i have noticed both mine are fogged up, i will have to ring dealers, my car is less than 2 years old so hopefully will be a warranty issue

i m starting to think the silica gel is a good idea as it seems even fairly new cars have this problem too surely the seals cant have gone after 2 years
