Fog lights possible solution

I know everyone has been having problems with there fog lights misting up and condensation I've been wanting to do this for a while but didn't have the balls to do it but today I got my drill out a drilled 2 little holes in the corner of the lens. Not to big just incase it doesn't work and don't want to cause any more damage.

I don't know why everyone doesn't remove them from the bumper, remove the bulb wash out thoroughly, dry in the airing cupboard and then seal up good and proper with silicone?
 
With the amount of facelift Z4s produced I'm amazed that no one has come up with a viable aftermarket replacement for these. I don't really fancy overhauling them I'd rather just get a well designed replacement. I've seriously considered just binning them and buying the blanking plates - they look crap all misted up.
 
I've drilled 3 small holes in my misted up foglight (the other is ok), I drilled mine more to where the seam is, but I can confirm that (a) it now only mists up when it gets wet but then dries out quickly & (b) mine was badly corroded inside but this does not show up when they are dry as they are at such a low level, your eye is only drawn to the condensation.
 
I used 'dark smoke' headlamp tint film on mine (Lamin X), can only notice the condensation if you are looking for it. Understand it may not be a solution to the problem, however all depends what you're after.

May not be everyone's taste but something that may interest some.
 
To Dale B.: I like that idea of the smoked lamin-x cover but can the foglights still be used or does the smoked cover make it so they don't thrown any light anymore so you just don't use them anymore? TIA...

The fog lights can still be used as normal :thumbsup: I have not noticed any negative difference.

I wasn't sure whether to order "tint" or "gunsmoke" so I ordered "gunsmoke" because I felt that "tint" might not hide the condensation adequately. Was that the right color to order Dale B.? TIA!

Bombardino- Was a while ago when I purchased Lamin-x, the company I purchased it through no longer sell it, seems to be available other places though :)

Lovebandit- Gun smoke is the colour I used :thumbsup:
 
I'm going down the removal route and buy the blanking covers instead, mine are far gone now and have corroded badly inside. Not going to waste money on new ones as these will go again in time.
