Fog Lights Hell!

It's really been bugging me, to the point of obsession, the amount of ar5holes who drive around day and night illegally with their front fog lights on all the time.
Now I accept some are just plain stupid and have forgot to turn them off from the last time they genuinely used them in the fog and are oblivious of the strange light now on their dashboard. However, most modern cars and All BMWs, automatically turn their fogs off every time the ignition is turned off. So this means that a hell of a lot of ar5holes are deliberately turning on their fogs in daylight hours or even at night when not required. Why? Do they think it makes it look like they have DRLs? Or are they just showing off?
Seriously, I can guarantee that on the shortest of journeys, day or night I will pass at least half a dozen of them :headbang:

Your life must be awesome if fog lights get you so fired up.

Seriously though, I don't see the problem with having fog lights on, if they are aimed correctly they won't be shining at oncoming drivers, but flat along the road.

Front ones don't bother me

But rear ones left on when it's not foggy grr

That's the issue though, foglights aren't "aimed" particularly. They don't have the focussed beam of a dipped headlight and are close enough to road to be a proper nuisance in the wet/rain. Even when it is actually foggy there is seldom a need for them in town driving imo.

Plus it's illegal to have them on when it's not foggy. Doubt many coppers pull people for it. It's the people who have ha headlight out and clearly can't be bothered to fix them therefore use their fog lights that really annoy me.

I don't see the issue here... more and more modern cars have their fogs on all day to function as DRL, sometimes you can't even turn them off... I have mine on as well (but replaced with less-bright leds)

I've been pulled for it. Admittedly in London when the 'ring of steel' was manned, so I was just waved to stop by a copper doing another job and politely asked to switch them off.

It annoys me too - especially when they are using aftermarket / LED bulbs, because they are not aimed anywhere, as said above. Using them as headlights at night

I might try leaving mine on if you get pulled for it!

The worst ones are the pillocks who have their sidelights on with their fogs.

Wtf?

a bloke in work used to do this on a brand new fiesta st, and another with a qashqai. They probably though they looked like a bad boy, when in reality they looked like idiots.

All of my cars have had to have at least sidelights on for the fogs to work :?

@ Andy -

i dont see the problem tbh, all those audis and BMW driving round with those stupid bright LED daylight runnig lights blinding the hell out of you! fog lights arnt that bright, so many people do it now that the police just cant be bothered

It is not quite true - cars with non-LED DRLs use a weaker bulb that is next to the fog light one. It is a more 'passive' light that does not distract oncoming drivers or make that annoying pool of light on the wet road.

Different cars with the fogs on seem a bit chavvy, but one thing is true - the facelifted Zed looks awesome with the fogs on, and replacing the bulbs with LEDs probably makes the lights quite harmless.

Anyway, when I still had my horribly rusty fog lights, I tried to demist them by turning them on. Of course, I did get pulled by the police as it is illegal.

I ended up replacing my fishtanks with a fully legal, automatic OSRAM DRL set.
