Fog lights............again

I know the question and debate of moisture in the facelift foglights has been done to death but I have just bought a new set and wondered if anyone had a proven solution pre installation to try and stop this happening again or at least delay it? Thanks
 
Cant be a help on the moisture but how much did the new fogs cost if you don't mind me asking? Going to ring Sopers for a price tomorrow :-)
 
I got quite a few prices most suppliers all have the same cost of £110 each inc VAT I plan on ordering them from C3bmw who have quoted £95.25 each inc VAT. If anyone knows any cheaper let me know :D
I also read on one thread that they may now be a new design by Bosch rather than the original supplier AL and have been told that AL are Bosch and no one was aware of a new design so potentially the same fault will happen again. Unless we have a proven solution?
 
I had a similar problem on my import Integra. I found a discreet place where water wouldn't run in and drilled a couple holes, something like 3mm and then dry them out with a hair dryer. Hopefully after this it should stop your condensation.

The holes act as a breather and hopefully keep air flowing.
 
The OEM fog lights already have a breather duct, so that would not change much. As you can see in the DIU section, all the misting fog lamps suffered from corrossion, which eventually made the silver peel and the seal defunct. A refurb with powder coating and some good sealant might help, although it's hard to open the unit without damaging it if it's not very rusty. That was what I tried - and failed - before I went for quality DRL replacements.
 
From my experience of taking mine apart & refurbing them, the housing corrodes & the paint lifts from the housing, this eventualy makes its way under the paint & sealer holding the plastic front on & then into your lights which then lets water in. Id personally rub the metal housing down & paint it with a spray can just to give it some extra durability :D

No, as Fatmike has said, it is the metal/silver that corrodes and peels around the seal.

......... and after spending an hour or so drying mine out a week or so ago I notice that they are today back as bad as ever ..... bahh.... hardly a big issue in the grand scheme of things but I detest design faults on expensive cars

I'll share my Audi multitronic gearbox failure experience at some point......now that was a biggy lol :lol:
 
Agree that it's not a big issue just bloody annoying!! From reading the threads it appears that the moisture gets in between the glass and the body of the light as assume this is the only join in the design, can this seal not be improved with additional sealant?

You can, but the rust will eat away the paint around it anyway - unless you get them powder-coated or professionally resprayed beforehand.

(expensive but extremely reliable and fully legal automated DRLs -- forget Chinese knock-offs)

inside OEM blank plastic covers. It requires some work - or professional installation - but is worth the effort.
