Fog Light Restoration??

Has anyone revived any fog lights? Can they be restored or should I just replace them?

Pic attached - both are about the same as the one pictured. A fellow forum member very kindly gave them to me with the facelift front bumper but I'm not sure if they can be salvaged or not.

The photo actually makes the lens look really bad - but the lens itself isn't that bad - it's the interior that's buggered and the chrome at the rear is nasty lol

OP, if the reflectors are b*ggered I think it's either buy new ones or get blanking plates (I don't think all facelifts had front fogs). Unless you can split the fittings and find a way of restoring the reflectors.

Luckily mine were in good condition when I bought it, so as soon as they started misting up they got three 3mm holes drilled in the bottom of the lenses and they're still good. :)

Drilling 3 small holes in the bottom seems to be the answer

I think it's too late for that! haha

I think they may well be a write off - the guy was nice enough to give them to me for free anyways so I've not lost anything. I'll just wait until I have some spare cash I guess and will buy some then - think I'll wait out winter first though, as I've got respray the bumper etc anyways

Why not get the knackered fogs sprayed at the same time?

That way you give yourself the option of running with a nice clean bumper and colour coded ‘blanks’ or going with new ones once you get the cash

You mean spraying the lens so they act like blanking plates? good call!! I'll be spraying the bumper myself though :)

Incase you wanted to split them, I've found them really easy to split after being soaked in some hot water :)
Previously I've tried with a heat gun and found it terribly inefficient. So made a cuppa, used some water (with cold) to soak the lights, by the time you're done with your brew should fall apart with a small amount of pulling or prying. I did these for my side indicators, same process for the fogs I would assume

Did mine for the test at the start of the year - mine had brown reflectors so I didn't bother to try and fix them and I suggest you throw yours as well.

They take about ten mins a side to change and can be done without removing the bumper they go through the access flap in the wing liner. I just waited (a couple of months in the end) for Euro parts to have a deal - I bought from their ebay site as it turned out and it cost me around £60 a side.

Living in the sticks I need all the light I can get so wasn't going to blank them off and if these do eleven years like the others I don't think its too bad a cost.
