Foam lance? Added video on Page3!

Scott - I've tried the SP Cleanser and Sealant - worked well as a combo.

I've used both Blackfire Tyre Gel and Megs - preferred the Blackfire. It seemed to last longer.

Get some pictures up of the car foamed up Matt

Cheers for the feedback

Had a blast with the cleanser today and looked exceptional on a range rover sport I carried an enhancment detail to some time back, really lifted the paint even more so than lime prime but without as much pure polishing oils.

Gave this a go today, and made a bit of a hash of it, I think. I decided to film my exploits (I wanted to test my waterproof video camera). One thing to note, the foamed car bit, it had been standing there for a while as I was faffing with the camera. Also, about half the vid is me showing off the car  Anyway, here's the vid:

Findings:
I did change the setting on the lance so it didn't give a pin point, that helped stop the foam going everywhere.
Oddly, I used the entire container - not sure if that was the mix setting or the fact that I kept going back to bits I'd missed (the panel above the rear wheel for instance).
Where the foam did get on the roof, it was soaked immediately and then any marks remaining when the roof dried were removed with a damp microfibre.
After rinsing off the foam that hadn't run off the car didn't look loads cleaner, but when using the wash mitt it just glided over the surface :)
Overall a great tool - and no doubt better once I've got my technique down.

As for the Kodak Playsport - didn't seem to object to being foamed and the blasted with the pressure washer. Should be in the sea later this year.

Foam lance experts, what do I need to be doing differently?

I will no doubt be spending a reasonable amount of time tomorrow jet washing the drive

The foam will go everywhere to some extent. What I would say is that your spray it too narrow. When I do mine the spray is a wider pattern and the foam is much thicker. That might be why it didn't lift much off - that and your car looked clean to start with.

:D  Brilliant video!

As you say, pin-pointing the foam is not a great idea. :P I tend to have it in a "fan", but not at the widest setting. One thing that perhaps someone can confirm, the +/- dial on the lance, I'm pretty sure to get the thickest foam possible, I have to turn in the direction of minus - but then not have it fully there, or it goes watery, so basically just move it off the maximum (minus) position. Does this sound familiar? :? I also tend to put a measure of shampoo to a maximum of about 10mm in height. I can't wait to try the PH Neutral stuff now. :D I think also if the car is heavily waxed, and the windows have rain repellent on them, the wax won't "stick" to the paint. I need to get an attachment for my Karcher that gives a more diffused rinse. My current attachment tends to give a "blade" of water, so you need to use it quite far back from the car. Your car looked terrific after the 2 BM wash though.

One thing that really surprised me at the end of the video... the way that the roof folded down in just one operation! :D Obviously with the hardtop, the rear window section folds up to sit on section above your head, the boot lid folds back, the roof folds into the boot, then the boot lid closes. It was just strange watching the car "convert" in 1 operation. Maybe I've just had too much sun today! :D

Thanks - I did widen the pattern after I moved onto the other side. Think I need to adjust the + / - on the top too.

With the +/- I tend to go all the way to + then back it off about 1/2 a turn. Seems to be a good compromise on foam thickness without going through a whole bottle.

:D
The start off was going wrong with the sharp pin point foaming but you came good inthe end
Foam does go everywhere thats part of the fun matey
I tend to adjust my lance to about 2/3's on this seems to give a great foam and doesnt use all one bottle at once.

How did you get on with the halfords washer btw?

Nik, Gordon, thanks... will have a play with that next time, spent this one fiddling with the foam pattern. Of course I filmed the bit where I was getting it wrong. I wanted to have another go today. Thought I'd better not.

Scott, that little Halfords pressure washer is great. I spent about an hour today cleaning the drive, which it did with ease. The added bonus is the size, fits nicely out of the way

I'm sure mine gives thicker foam when you go in the minus (-) direction. :?

So does mine, think someone made a mistake somewhere along the line! Like others I turn fully minus, then back off a bit.

Looks good Matt - only thing I'd say is there's no need to use Evian in the lance - tap water will do :poke:

As you noticed it won't look much cleaner as all the traffic film is still on the car. All the big bits of crud are gone though, bugs are loosened up and washing is much easier.

Top job

PS you'll probably want one of these - makes getting foam in lance much easier and allows you go put just the right amount in every time:
