Flyboyaj's Pictures

KC-10's are. IMO one of the best rides to be on when you have go cross the pond on a military jet. C-5 was nice, but somehow it just didn't do it. Maybe it was because the loadmaster wouldn't let us play football. C-17 was nice (though the jumpseats sucked) because the loadmaster let us stretch out in the bay, and various people with laptops hooked up to the aircraft and we watched movies.

For some reason I think Lufthansa First Class is more my style :D

In the 80's, I had to fly to Deigo Garcia from Norfolk in a C-141. You do not have any Idea the level of suckage that was... with a five hour layover in Mombasa, Kenya.
If I would have had a gun, I would have shot myself.

Yeah, on one of my trips to Deigo Garcia our last leg (from Utapoa if I recall) was on a C-141. We had almost no space in there due to our cargo. It was teh suck. I hope I never ride on a C-141 again.

C-130 is probably the worst, and KC-10 the best. Haven't done the C5 yet, but I would guess it is a nice ride after you get done climbing the ladders.

He drives a C17 doesn't he?
flyboyaj is currently flying a KC-10 configured as a tanker for refueling.

Can KC-10 be configured for anything else other than aerial refueling? :idunno:
According to flyboyaj the KC-10 can be configured for refueling, cargo or passengers and a number of combinations of a little of each. Fully loaded the take-off weight will exceed 1/2 millon pounds... :o

Hi y'all! This thread is great! Lots of laughs... thanks a million guys! Tour is almost over here and it'll hopefully be warm enough to bring my Stephanie out of hybernation when I get back. I've got a ton of other photo's I'll post up in here when I get back. (Huge thanks to WLH for posting my emails for me).

Let's see if I can remember some of the questions and get them answered here. First, there is a fact sheet in the public domain on the KC-10 and it's abilities at http://www.af.mil. I can't get to it for some reason right now and my battery is dying on the laptop so... It's under Library at the top, then under Fact Sheets on the right. You'll see that the KC-10 can actually carry more cargo and a greater distance than even the C-17, but it's a pain in the ass to load and unload thru our cargo door 30-some-odd feet off the ground.

Aebous - it's here in the Middle East, not Korea. There are knock-off shops here too. Y'all would be surprised how "westernized" it is in many places out here. Jeans and T-shirts are very common, and the malls are full of all the modern brand name stores. Heck, I ate at a Fudruckers for lunch when I went downtown here. McDonalds, Prada, Gap, Victoria's Secret, Abercrombe... the're all over the place out here. Starbucks is HUGE out here too. This area of the globe is very beautiful despite all the sand.

Woops, battery is gone. Y'all take care. See ya soon!!! :D

Update From flyboyaj... :flyboyaj:

http://www.af.mil/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=109

http://www.af.mil/factsheets/factsheet.asp?fsID=86

As you can see the C-17 only handles 169k 2400 miles where the KC-10 can do 170k almost twice as far (4400 miles) and faster (Mach .825 vs the C-17's .76). Of course, the numbers are just bragging rights for us boring tanker pukes, the C-17 is much more versatile and equipped for cargo and all they gotta do is meet one of us in the air to get more gas and their range is limitless. But this is a car forum, not an airplane one, so that's enough about that.

Outstanding, AJ. My shop is working on new versions of Combat Talon II equipment as sub-contract work on a gov't contract. Looks like the Spec Ops boys will be busy for some time to come.

Keep up the good work!

Greg
