Fluids help/advice (after I’ve searched the forum!)

Hi all,

Owned the 2.5Si for one week today and as per my newbie post many mods already done (yesterday swapped the gear knob for the ZHP - well worth it!)

Monday morning I’m having the new H&R springs fitted and the garage has just confirmed while it’s being done they’ll also replace the coolant, gearbox oil and diff oil if I bring the fluids along - the problem I have is I don’t have them yet so Opie oils delivery is out of the question leaving Halfords and Euro Car Parts off the top of my head as the only likely places I can collect today or tomorrow other than Amazon Prime delivery tomorrow.

I’ve searched the forum and can see multiple recommendations regarding which fluid brands/specs to use, but given my time limitations - any recommendations from the above 3 retailers?

This is what I was thinking of getting:

Gearbox:
https://www.halfords.com/motoring/engine-oils-and-fluids/gearbox-oil/comma-mvmtf-plus-75w-fs-manual-gear-oil-1l-213949.html

Or

https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/mpm-gearbox-oil-75w-80-gl-5-prem-synth-mtf-1ltr-522778622

Diff:
Castrol Syntrax Limited Slip Oil 75W-140, 1L https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004UBDGYW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_0aRPFbNB9C0P9

Or

https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/castrol-522771702

Coolant:
https://www.halfords.com/motoring/engine-oils-and-fluids/antifreeze/comma-g48-antifreeze-and-coolant-rm-5l-600399.html

Any thoughts on the above? Also as this is for my 09 2.5 N52 on 67k miles, is it wise for me to change the coolant given the water pump problems these engines have (as in could changing it speed up the pump failure)

Any thoughts or alternative suggestion most welcome!

You'll want a 75W80 GL4 or GL5 for the gearbox rather than the single grade 75W.

The G48 is the correct coolant. Changing the coolant shouldn't risk water pump failure as the failures tend to be electronic rather than mechanical.

I changed mine back in April 2017. I used Castrol Syntrans B75W (API GL-4, ZF TE-ML 11) in the gearbox and Syntrax Long Life 75W-90 (API GL-5, ZF TE-ML 05A,12B,17B,19C,21A, BMW Non LS Rear Axles) in the diff. The diff took almost exactly one litre and the gearbox slightly more. The car was/is much quieter and gear changes much improved, well worth doing. I also use Comma Xstream G48 Coolant. I have no complaints with any of these products and would recommend all three
