Fluid Leak - What is it?!

Hi All,

I'm pulling my hair out a bit here, my zed is leaking fluid from a round, black tank at the front of the engine block, between the engine and the coolant area, it's a solid black, round tank with a threaded cap, which has 25nm written on the top. I can't for the life of me work out what this is though, I'm sure it's something dead simple and easy to replace, I just need to work out what it is!

Is anyone able to shed light on this for me? Thanks all!!

Haha sorry it's dark so I didn't get a pic, but here's one I got off Google, ignore the red circle, it's the tank I've circled in orange :)

That's the oil filter housing

Ah yes of course it is!! I knew I was being dumb! There is oil leaking from it, could it be the housing gasket has gone? If so, what's the procedure to replace? Easy job? Thanks for the help !!

Is it leaking from the join between the plastic cap and alloy housing or further down where the housing mounts on the block ?

It will be the rubber o-rings. If you buy a new oil filter it will come with new o-rings.

Thanks guys, not too sure without cleaning it all up where it is leaking from, I'll give it a good clean when it's light tomorrow, for now I've ordered a new K&N oil filter which as you say comes with the new O rings, seems a good place to start!

Are you definitely sure it's coming from underneath the black cap? Only reason I ask is because the oil filter housing gasket is a common leak point on these engines. The gasket becomes brittle after numerous years/heat cycles. A replacement is very cheap and it's easy enough to do on your driveway, although if you didn't know that black circular item contained the oil filter, I'd suggest letting a mechanic replace the gasket

Thanks for the tip, it's definitely coming from the o ring under the plastic cap, so a new filter and o ring will do the job. I'm not taking the car to a mechanic for such a small job mind you, I'm very mechanically minded and practical with my hands, it's just my first zed and I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing before I do it, I'm much more used to agricultural mechanics :)
