Funny you say that because just been out thier thinking the same, and its made by continental.

Im sure thats incorrect for this model?

It reads on the face of it.
Continental
5WK97502Z
PBT-GF30
050073384
0001148

Can anyone confirm if this is the correct part, or provide me with details of the correct part number?

Seems to be MAF of this type and then a Bosch unit with approx £100 difference in price. So I am abit lost as to which I should be buying.

Continental make them now

You cant get a new bosch one with bosch branding even though if you get it from euro car parts and it says bosch, continental make it on their behalf

Same if tou got it from bmw

ok thanks.

So Eurocar parts price is £213, apprently a new one which appears to be same part on eBay is £63.

Reckon that's a Chinese knock off or worth taking the plunge?

If you can, wait for a euro car parts sale or discount code.
Infact google for a discount code

Any money off is a result.
Even if the code is apparently expired it may still work

That ebay one looks too cheap and for something that is silly sensitive i wouldnt, but its also cheap enough to take a punt.

If it was me when i had the issue id chance it.
At the time i didnt have an issue buying maf sensors just to resolve the issue as it was the only peice in the puzzle and i heard stories of new maf sensors being faulty.

I returned the faulty ones within an hour or delivery.

So I took a chance on the part from eBay turned up, in proper VDO packaging with security stickers, seems legit, installed it and the new MAF seems fine, no error codes, and able to read it's PID value with diag cable.

That said still got the issue slight fluctuation of revs when first starting the car and very rarely when it's idling while driving.

What do we think is the next most likely culprit? Vanos solenoids? Coils?

Removal of the sensor puts the car into alpha n high means it has to guess the air/fuel mix using assumed values.

Unplugging it does to some extent point at the maf.

Do another test

Remove the airbox and keep the maf connected but not screwed into the box just lay it somewhere on its back

If it runs smooth then check if your jubilee clips are tight and hoses on correctly and no gaps

Lastly change your air filter.

If you have an aftermarket it may be the issue.
If it's oem then swap it for a new one.

Last case get your maf replaced.

Are you getting any lights or codes??

No error codes, or lights whilst running with the "new" MAF or the old "new" MAF. I can also see with the diag cable that the unit is returning proper values to the ecu.

I'll replace air filter anyway.

I'll also do another test tomorrow.
