Florence Triumph meeting

Well I happened to be working in Italy last week and as luck would have it there was a meeting of Spitfire roadsters and a few other Triumphs.

I asked 'why no coupes?' and they said there's only one, but we make it park elsewhere:

I also had to go to the Ferarri shop in Milan, Citroen, Peugeot and Fiat Racing centre in Paris too. Tough week's work all in all

I love Florence and my guilty secret is a love of GT6's.One of those Triumphs in the 1st pic bears more than a passing resemblance to an Alfa Spider cuckoo in the nest.

Italians love Spitfires - and Triumph in general - as the it was designed by an Italian designer, Michelotti. He designed the Herald (and Vitesse), the Spitfire and GT6, the TR4, TR5 and TR250, the Triumph 2000 saloon & estate (Mk1 & Mk2), the 1300 saloon (and Dolomite), the nighty V8 Stag...

Sorry for sounding like an anorak, but I owned a MkII Vitesse for many years. I had the modding bug with that one too; stage II tuned engine, triple Webers, Lotus suspension - 160 bhp in a car designed with 90 as standard. I only got rid of it earlier this year when It finally dawned on me that I preferred modern, maintenance-free (and trouble-free) motoring in my BMW 5er. So, off it went, replaced with the zed! I've already put on as many miles in 3 months as in 8 years of owning the Vitesse...

Part reason to photo is my brother owned a '66 Spitfire. Loved it for its looks and lines back in the 70's when he had that and I had a Cooper - happy days.

There were a couple of interlopers one Spider and a few TR''s but I reckon 50 Spitfires.
Don't recall any GT6's there.

And yes - at day was the wettest day in May day for years hence roofs up.
