Floor Mats

OE quality has gone down in the last few years too - but that may simply be due to the few remaining sets of e85/6 mats in stock being made 5 years ago and the adhesive not lasting in storage :x

Hmmmmn. I seen a pair from BMW for £62. But then came across shed loads for half the price. Searching the forum, it seems they may not be all that.Came across Autostyle, u can customize it with logo's. That said, longevity is the main consideration.

i bought some autostyle basic mats for my boxster... very impressed with them to be fair! perfect fit, and have the right fittings to stay in place.

i think they do 4 different grades, basic, deluxe, supreme and luxury or something, so plenty of choice.

I just got a set from a BMW dealer via eBay and they're lovely quality. Very thick, nice fit.

I just wish there was a way to get the originals for our car, which came with a coloured leather edge to match the seats

@brillomaster are they lasting well?...
In case anyone's wondering why I need floor mats, this happened Sunday  :

OMG, is that milk or paint? if its paint hope its water based :(

Paint! And lots of it!
I was coming back from Wickes with the tin on the passenger floor; turned into my road and the tin fell over.

Somehow the lid came off.

I couldn't believe it. I was in denial for a few seconds watching the paint flow out!
That's when I made my first mistake - do I stop to quickly rectify it and risk getting paint on my hands, or carry on home? I chose the wrong option and carried on home as I was on my road. The 15 secs it took resulted in half the paint flowing out and into the footwell!

The exact same thing happened to my sister with a B&Q tin of store mixed paint. You would think they'd put clamps on the lid.

We had the same,5litres of gloss in the footwell of a brand new toyota hilux 4ks worth of damage plastics trims carpets etc.

Don’t get how the lid just popped off so easy! Usual I one had to attack the lid with a screwdriver!

Spent all afternoon rinsing out the paint from the carpet. It’s not too bad actually. The grainy plastic may be trickier....

After seeing your previous photo I'd have to say that has cleaned up much better than I expected.

If my experience with my 3 Series is anything to go by it can be hard to find after-market mats in anything other than black. But as it's only a daily I just put cheap black mats in anyway!

I think I'd stick to OE for an E86 - Cotswold BMW and Sopers of Lincoln offer a forum discount.

Good luck getting the rest of the paint off.

Lots of water, then scrubbing with washing up
Liquid, then a soak with white vinegar and rinse.

Unfortunately some of the dye has come of the seat, where I over scrubbed it.

Not tackled this yet :

That's a shame, but furnitureclinic and scuffmaster do leather dye and resotration kits that seem to get good reviews.

If it's gloss paint I'd try some brush cleaner on the plastic. But test it on a part that isn't visible first just in case!

Luckily it’s water based.
I’ve been spraying the plastic with WD40, then rubbed with the trusty magic marker.

I’m off on hols tomorrow so the rest will have to wait.
For example the medical box:

Phew, that must be a relief!

A stiff nailbrush might work on the grainy plastics, and at least you can take the box for the first aid kit out to tackle that.

Sorry to see this - I would be distraught if it was my car. It might make sense to take the seat out?

Yeah I said a few choice words to myself!
I did think about that, but time was against me as I couldn’t let it dry out.
I did notice that I missed a bit under the first aid box, (u can see a square patch in the photo) but that would have dried out by now.

Happened to someone here, in their boot. Think it was emulsion. What a mess!

From this day I vow never to carry paint in the Zed! (Not that I have during my ownership... but I can imagine the look of horror on your face as the lid came off and paint came out... it’s not even my car and my chest hurts!)

In regards to your question, I’d recommend the diamond mats, don’t particularly love them for the aesthetics. But they give great coverage/protection. Got them in the e90 and would recommend for a daily or a car that gets even weekly use (British weather). My Zed gets out once a month probably so haven’t got them in mine.
