Floor mats

Yes, there should be velco bits stitched/glued to the floor, and BMW mats will come with the opposite velcro to stick to these.

If you buy aftermarket mats they sometimes come with velcro, or more usually with their own, unique method of attaching them to the floor...some of which are more successful than others.

Unfortunately the glue does degrade over time, so I'd suggest you simply reaffix some extra-wide velcro yourself (I think there's an extra strong version too - but make sure your glue is strong enough).

That reminds me, I gave BMW a set of mats out of mine that were a week old and the velcro had come unstuck. They were going to check if they're covered by warranty, but I've never received a replacement or refund.

Yup two simple velcro strips as standard. Mine are still the original strips after 70k plus miles. I did glued the corners back down once, on the drivers side. But they still work fine. :)

My velcro was coming away from the actual football carpet. I carefully 'glued' it down with some black silicone RTV and it's not budged since

Can the screw-in pads be installed in the Z floor or do we have to use the glue-on type?

I bought a cheap pair with the screw in pads for my 3 Series and they worked just fine - but you do have to make holes in the carpet!
