Flocking

Hi all,

Has anyone on here had the top of their dash flocked? I'm considering getting mine done as the glare from the dash is pretty intense up here in Scotland at the mo, with the sun setting early :(

I looked into it when I was looking at alcantara alternatives. It was more for the aluminium bits. I got most info from subaru forums where it seems to be quite popular. In the end I canned the idea as it looked a bit odd in most pics.

I've done it in most my cars, but kinda wanted to know if it the dash removal was going to be straight forward :) The cars in bits at the moment whilst i clean up the suspension parts :D

funny, I was only thinking about this very thing this morning.

I've no plans to do mine though as I want to keep/ensure the car can be put back to OEM.

The problem with flocking - frequently seen on professional rally cars - is that second-hand car peddlers use it as a means of repairing the dashboard after airbag deployment. It's a turn-off for prospective buyers.

Never heard of that. There's usually an easy way to see if the bag has deployed in the dash anyway - look directly at the seam.

Exacly. Flocking is used to cover the entire dash, with the seam and all.

I just thought it would look a bit odd in a Z4. It suits a track toy like an Elise/Exige or in a rally type car like a Subaru or Mitsubishi. The Z4 interior try's to be a bit more prestige (whether or not it achieves it is another discussion).

I thought a professional retrim of the dash in either leather or alcantara with contrasting stitching would look much better. The dash in my mates Scuderia is black alcantara with yellow stitching. Looks classy but purposeful.
