Flat tyre

I gave my car its first pressure wash this morning at a garage and after driving into an underground garage realised the drivers side back tyre was deflating and is now flat (Z4M so no run flats). Kwik Fit have quoted around £250 for a new tyre.. grr.. can I get it fixed or is the only thing I can do is replace it? Haven't yet decided whether to get RAC out to change it for me (after paying their monthly fee after all) or to do it myself  Its ironic after owning an MX5 for almost two years with never a flat tyre, I get one in this after 3 days :( What do you recommend?

Use the mobility kit that should have come with your car. :)

You mean to change it? That's not a problem, but is it repairable or do you just have to change it? Maybe I have unrealistic expectations about the cost of tyres!

Surely kwit-fit or similar will advise if it is repairable - all depends on where the hole is...

Search online for the best price for a tyre (if it cant be repaired) then arrange fitting. Some sites partner with fitting centres (such as Best Buy Tyres which let you specify where to get fitted, tyres are then sent straight to the tyre fitter

Yep depends on the damage to the tyre, and how long you've got to sort it.

the mobility kit contains "gunk" to get you moving again, but then I think it's unrepairable if you use it.

I was talking to a tyre fitter about this, if the gunk is removed quickly it maybe repaired (depending where the hole is) but if the gunk sets the patch/bung will not adhere correctly.

I spoke to a tyre fitter I trust too, he says it's not a problem washing the gunk out and repairing it as you normally would. But a lot of tyre places are too lazy to wash the stuff out properly, hence why a lot of repairs were failing and why they don't recommend it.

Ok, so I used the mobility kit and drove it to Kwik Fit which is less than half a mile away, only for the guy to tell me that it's been damaged by driving it over and now unrepairable.. £215 for a new Continental, so I'm not happy :headbang:

damage may have been done driving it before you used the mobility kit, do you know how long you drove it flat for?

Or they're just after a sale

Although whenever I've had a flat, I've not driven on it for more than about 200 yards (once I've noticed it) and then taken it off the car to get it repaired.

Although I did have flat once on REALLY low profile tyres and due to the very stiff sidewall, I didn't notice until the carcass of the tyre came past me as I slowed for a roundabout on a dual carriageway.

I had a mobile tyre company come out today and after a very long day at work was looking forward to some evening driving, but they brought the wrong size!! So its sitting unused tonight and I can't touch it for the risk of a blow out :x Can't wait for some weekend driving :driving:

I think BMW has all of us backed into a corner because the Z4 does not have a spare tire. So we either have to try and live with the RF's or place our trust in the curiously named mobility kit. Rubbish! Get a space saver spare and learn to pack a little lighter on the weekends. You will no longer have to tolerate the performance and costs of the RF's nor will you at the mercy of the closest unshaven, unwashed tire "technician" who casts a baleful eye on your hastily re inflated tire that is oozing slime from the hole you desperately tried to seal. Never mind that he has never removed a tire from an 18" rim without damage.
