Flat tyre - happened to me

Hi,

I'm just wondering what other people do when they get a flat with a Z4M. I was on the M6 when the warning light came on and stopped to take a look, near side rear was flat as a pancake so rang the AA (figured it was terminal, which it turned out, it was), while waiting for the AA I thought I'd give the "Mobility Kit" a go.

Set the thing to go according to the instructions and watched the pressure needle go round but the tyre stay very very flat. At that point, gave up and put it all away.

The AA arrived said that's knackered and then radioed for a flat bed. That arrived a few hours later (glad I had a book) and was taken home.

Needless to say after that experience I'm curious to know if anyone runs with a space saver that's big enough to get over the front brakes? I did some searching on the forum and the thread kind of just ended without an answer.

Failing that what tyre gunk do you guys use? As I'm going to have to pick some up.

Cheers for any info :)

Sorry to hear about the flat tyres and worse that the kit didn't work :o . No idea why, as I use RFT but could it be the kit was out of date? How long did you have it for? Not sure kits have a best before date?

Kit can only do so much, you cant expect miracles!!

Believe the 330 e46 space saver fits the Z4M unless you have a big brake kit installed

The goo can seemed curiously empty when I shook it, The prob with the E46 space saver is it won't get over the CSL brakes at the front :(

I'm now going through my options regarding replacing the tyre, limp it to kwik fit or go to black circles fitting service (still means limping it), or just order the tyres, get the wheel off and take it to a local tyre fitter?

Joy

Sorry to hear this... a but of a bummer.

You can get a mobile fitter to fit it for you.. dont charge much more then local fitters.... I think even black circle have them listed.

I would have thought any E46 17" space saver would work... even with your csl front brakes - as they still have the same weedy calipers.

Spacesavers seem to stop at about 17", and that's just not big enough to clear the 343mm disc on the front of the Z4M.
I have an 18" space saver from a jag off ebay
But does it have the right offset and inner clearance to clear the Z4M brakes?

This is the last I saw on the great "will they? wont they" debate

I thought the Z4M got the CSL anchors which are bigger

Def don't try to 'limp the car anywhere. Call a mobile fitter as suggested, get a cab to the tyre depot, etc. Driving will just add a new rim to the bill.

You should have the oem mobility kit which will be way bette than any can simply because of the volume of air from a compressor and amount of goo in the bag. On mine you have to connect the goo to the airline else it just acts like a compressor. Stupid question but did you do that correctly?

Slightly off-topic but be aware that there is a 'Use by' date for the Mobility Kit, well, just the big can of gunk not the compressor obviously.
A jeepers states, get a replacement OEM gunk canister, for one thing it fits perfectly into the mobility kit area and it's pretty big!

Yep, it was all connected up per the instructions on the side of the compressor. As I'm going through the motions in my mind, I'm pretty sure the gunk can was as light as you like, did shake it and just assumed the contents were "very light".

Really don't want to add rim to the cost, just going to see if Black Circles do mobile fit

Sorry I wasn't clear on the 'limping',

I was going to get another can of sealant and try again, if I managed to get it inflated then I could get the car to a fitter. Failing that, it looks like I'd have to get the tyres, jack the car up (BMW? why no jack?), get wheel off and take wheel and new tyre to a fitter.

Camskill are quoting next day which would be sweet and just look at £35 for fitting it.

Cheers

Yay! BlackCircles fitting at home :) Awesomeness :)

Well done... one tip (if its not too late!)

Clean the wheel first and then show them any marks.

I had a mobile fitter for a wheel last yr (not on a bmw) and the tools/ machine in the van are not as good as a proper fitter so had to use more manual force getting the tire off and then on again.

Cheers for the tip! I'll clean the wheels tonight as the fitter isn't coming till tomorrow. I thought you had to change them in pairs? Is that correct?
