I've just listed my retrimmed steering wheel from old 330i, replaced it with the stock one before trading it in:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273568955394

And it's just one of those things I've missed along with a cup holder

The M sport wheel looks nice but I missed the feel.

So as a treat for myself this Christmas I was thinking of getting a retrimmed steering wheel from http://royalsteeringwheels.com/

Now, the question is do I keep it simple as before and just have the wheel made to feel thicker and retrimmed in soft smooth nappa leather with M colour stitching or do I go flat bottom this time, similar to SLK style, making it easier to get in and out.

Option 1 - Keep it simple
Make it slightly thicker and retrim in soft smooth nappa leather all round with M colour stitching, like this minus the perforated leather

Option 2 - Flat bottom
Make it slightly thicker and retrim in soft smooth nappa leather all round with M colour stitching and a flat bottom

Option 3 - Go all out!
Reshaped with a flat bottom and cut outs, thicker leather and perforated leather. But with no 12 o'clock marker.

The SLK wheel just so you can see what I mean about making it easier to get in and out.

Thanks for the responses, please post you votes in the poll at the top of the page, I'm hoping to hit 100 votes to help me decide.

Either way I'm doing this, I just need help to decide which way to do it.

I must be old-fashioned - I thought the whole point of a wheel was for it to be circular! :?

A flat bottom on wheel always meant a puncture to me.

But I do like the blue 12 o'clock marker!

I like option 3 but keep it simple - all black including the stitching (the blue stitching will only get grubby over time), will look great with the paddle shifters

I voted 1, because the M wheel on mine is excellent. It works very well.

However, my old 911 had a 12 o'clock marker and that was surprisingly useful. In fact, come to think of it, I'm going to put one on the Z.

How would you add this? Vinyl or something that clips on?

Never having driven with a flat bottomed steering wheel can someone who has, explain the advantages or otherwise :?

I just don’t see the flat bottom wheel as a BMW wheels if that makes sense!? I love a flat bottom in an Audi so nothing against them, just think round is nicer.

This is mine trimmed by Royals.

Can't go wrong with Jack's work! Did something slightly different for my wheel (alcantara/perf.) IMG_20180901_142016_126.jpg
From your options I'd go with the simple, stylish retrim. Flat bottoms and thumb mouldings are a bit too bling for a zed imo!

The first post here looks promising. What do you think?
