Flat battery - Can't open boot

Hi everyone,

My E89 battery is completely and utterly flat. Any ideas as to how I can get the boot open?

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

There are charging points under the bonnet, you could attach a charger or jump leads from another vehicle which should provide enough power to open the boot

Great advice folks. Thanks ever so much.
Now for some reason I can't unlock the door... even with the mechanical part of the key! I've managed to get a piece of wire in the window and around the door handle inside but the lock won't budge. Other than getting a stick with some superglue on it any ideas?
Thanks again for help with this annoying conundrum!

Thanks to everyone who helped with my flat battery question earlier. It's still flat as I can't open the door to open the bonnet. The locking mechanism seems to be stuck in the locked position and won't budge even using the key. Other than sliding a stick in with some super glue on it and trying to lift up the button that way, does anyone have any ideas how to get the door open?

Any help greatly appreciated!

I assume this means you still haven't got the bonnet open then?
Think there is a way to open that through the grilles, but you'd need someone else to tell you how.
Hopefully then, with battery power applied, all the locks will play the game.

The car will be deadlocked so you cannot open from the inside.

Have you another key you can try?

A “slim Jim” down the face of the window will allow you to manually manipulate the locking mechanism. Do you know anyone with a body shop or are you a member of a breakdown service? They both would normally have one.

Yup...tried two keys. Both just turn the barrel but don't unlock the door! Someone suggested a slim jim thing. I think that could be the way forward. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Why the heck didn't I think of that! That's got to be the answer!

Thanks!

Thanks again to everyone with questions earlier. Managed to get in to the car with the help from the RAC. Gonna give it a run now and check the battery. The alternator is working fortunately!

Cheers! You've all been amazingly helpful! Looking forward to getting this Z back on the road! :driving:

How did they get in?

For future ref you can easily remove the front kidney grills and from there apparently trigger the bonnet release, although I haven't done it others have previously posted about it being a solution.

It's not hard to remove the grills once you get the knack and get over the feeling you are breaking something,
Joel is quite irritating and posts a lot of bolx about the Z4, but occasionally also some useful stuff so we'll let him off :D

Glad you got sorted

Maybe need to stick it on a battery maintainer to keep it charged if not getting used regularly. Very well covered topic on forum. Just search and see what suits you best.

Yikes ! All these battery related problems all over the forum :?

I have a Varta battery with a BMW logo on it, (Cannot find a date) Suspect it's the original "2014"

Best i just get my butt down to Halfords for a new one, just in case.

It’s hardly surprising there are several battery issues at this time..

A lot of the fleet is ageing and reaching the point where battery replacement is due..

Many of these cars are garage queens, little used, especially at this time, with the onboard electronics steadily running the battery flat..

If you look around the breakdown / recovery companies are very busy across all makes with flat batteries due to the above..
