Flash Floods at home

We almost flooded at home today, thankfully we only had 5 minutes of massive rainfall, and then bright sunshine, 5 more minutes and our house would have flooded as the drive slopes down to the house, and the surface water drains just couldn't cope. This was taken from our front door about 20 minutes after the major downpour, the water was up over the step at its highest point, as we live in a single story building we would have been buggered.

I feel so sorry for anyone who has been flooded.

That's just staggering... Thank goodness it didn't come any higher up. Is there any more forecast where you are?

mines much worse. my garden has never held water in the past and now its up to knee level and only a few meters from the house. also the greenhouse is submerged and the plants are now floating around :headbang:

Lucky escape, but only a matter of time - I would be looking to improve the drainage

Just imagine if we had this relentless rainfall during winter, we would be under 20 foot of snow by now

The problem we have as far as surface water drainage is, that there are no mains surface water drains here, our surface water drains run to a ditch up the road :headbang: We have mains grey water drains, but you're not allowed to drain surface water into them.

I am going to put acco drains across the middle of the drive and drain them down the side of the house. but no amount of drainage would cope with the speed with which it rained this morning.

Looks like a close call, my worse nightmare would be flood damage. Has your property ever flooded before?

Couldn't have come at a worse time. My nephew's better half is about to give birth. I hope it doesn't happen tonight... its just taken him 3 hours to get home from work. The roads around the hospital are underwater...

He's a young lad that just bought it a couple of weeks ago. He's had some serious machinery in last few years.

I live near Kenilworth, Warwickshire, we have never ever thought about flooding, we live in one of the highest points in the midlands, we have a 30 mile view (on the 1 clear day a year) from the back of the house, but so much rain came down so quickly, one minute the driveway is fine, the next it's underwater.

We also had the hail, which was weird because it was a very warm day.
