Just had the windscreen replaced on mi Z .yet again
No 7 now.ouch. on a policy with ERS Insurance asked for gen bmw parts having not been happy a couple of years ago with the usual ill fitting equivilent ones paid£125 excess instead of the usual £75 so happy wi that.
Now mi screen on mi 66 reg 27k 2 series vert has cracked ,bin on to Saga and they wont authorise bmw parts only the usual £75 excess equivilent ones .If i insist on gen parts they will only pay £100. and i have to stump up the rest ie £500+.TW#TS.
Never heard of that one before.
So after a few heated phone conversations told em i will get the equivilent one fitted an pay the £75 .
Then immediately cancell my policies .
Grrrrrr.

Wow! I thought I had a rough time with Autoglass refusing to fit OEM parts until the 7th attempt at delivering substandard 'equivalent' windscreens.

Bloody 'ell Moz ! :o What a carry on. Only ever had one windscreen replaced years back on my 530i and that had a ripple in it on the drivers side so that took a couple of attempts to sort. Pales in comparison to yours and Marlons tribulations though

I’ve had the Z4 windscreen replaced twice, both with Pilkington ones.

The first was in about 2012 and was trouble-free for 50,000 miles, until I got a stone chip that turned into a crack when they tried to inject the resin. The 2nd, fitted in 2016 is still in.

Feel for you. On my Ford Focus I have one of those quick clear screens which worked brilliantly on frosty days. When the screen cracked from a stone thrown up from car in front I thought it would be an easy task on insurance ie like for like but could only get them to replace with a normal heated screen which now takes an age to clear. Wasnt happy!!.

Just had mine replaced by Auto Glass and was expecting a real 'mare. Told Auto Glass I wanted OEM glass and trim (what most of us call the seal) they said they would confirm with my insurance company - Aviva................ and yesterday for a £75 excess they fitted new OEM screen and trim (both arrived with Sytner lables) so it looks like its a  for Aviva and Auto Glass and to Marlon for posting his experience so I could start the process of getting mine done with a winning mindset.

Blimey Moz

What is it with you and windscreens ?

Is it worth reading the small print of the policy ?

It might say something like “manufacturers recommended “ or “OEM or like”

In either case you could speak to BMW and ask them if they recommend “Fred’s Super Windscreens” or whether they are OEM spec ?

As your 2er is still under warranty would the fitting of non OEM parts invalidate it ?

Q’s to ask and A’s to give to insurance company perhaps

Good points Andy .
Tbh they really pissed me off with there attude .so fk em.
New screen being fitted today .
Then tomoz ins will be cancelled as i have sourced another company and yes i have checked the small print.Belt n braces.
But cant imagine this non oem screen lasting too long wi my track record :D .

]20181004_183751.jpgWell the non oem screen fitted today .Pilkington glass .The fitter did a good job no complaints with his workmanship.
However hit me straight away the gap around the glass to the edge of the gasket is significantly more than the original ,so this will annoy me everytime i look at it,but then i am fussy.
So in the morn will cancell my ins with saga and they can go and fk themselves.
Thats the only crumb of pleasure i take from my with my saga experience

Don’t accept it like that. I bloody wouldn’t!
I’d phone the insurers tomorrow and bitch that it doesn’t fit properly because non OEM parts and you are not happy with it and won’t be until they have used OEM.
I certainly wouldn’t cancel my cover with them until you have got them to rectify it.

I had similar fun with my last replacement (and the one before that, and one before that on different car).
It takes a couple of weeks of arguing, but each time I have ended up with OEM bits and at least the excess waived for the hassle (time before last I got excess waived and a £50 apology!).

Don’t give in. Get them to rectify it at their cost, then cancel the policy.

Or, I guess, if you not such an irritable old goat as I am, don’t. :D

And I’m not advocating ditching the wife.
Here, for example, she has proven a most useful barometer for your decision making process. :D

Well after spending most of the morning being passed back and forth from saga the underwriters and nat windscreens ended up no further forward as they are not prepared to rectify anything .
Ins is now cancelled and the hunt for a new insurer begins .

They think that ´screen fit is acceptable?

It would seem that there’s no pride in work/Skills these days.

It is an undeniably bad fit. If you keep pushing on that you will win.
You just gotta weigh up whether it’s worth your bother or not.

If you can walk away and live with it, you’re a type of person in this world that I admire, and i’m certain you live a happier life than me because of it.

I simply couldn’t. I would have exploded in frustration and annoyance and be pissed off about it forevermore.

A friend had a windscreen fitted which sat too low and there ended up being loads of water ingress into the car. Water marks all over the inside of the roof, seat, wet floor etc. The company had to come back out to refit the screen higher up. No problems since.

Still think you can chase this. Its National Windscreens responsibility to fit it correctly - they were under contract to do it regardless of the insurance company who in fact only acted for you in providing part payment (all but the £75 excess).

I had a screen go on a classic earlier this year and after two missed appointments (they never turned up) I told national windscreens where to go having already agreed with my insurers via my broker that I would change it myself - emailed the supply invoice to the insurer as a PDF and got a cheque in the post next morning. Don't give up - send them photos of Zeds on here to show what it should look like.

Wouldn't let National Windscreens sweep our street after dealing with them in June - It took them 3 weeks to come out to the initial stone chip! - no doubt how Saga keep their costs down.

If the fitter is saying it’s fine, the insurance company are saying it’s fine, then how do you prove it’s not fitted ‘correctly’...and what does ‘correctly’ mean?

If it fits, and works, then that might fit their criteria of “correctly’...even if it’s not in exactly the same position as the original one.

Sounds like you’ll have to get an independent ‘glazing technician/engineer’ or BMW service dept to declare that it’s fitted incorrectly.

Have you checked that you’ve not got a coupe screen by mistake? (sorry, can’t remember which one is slightly bigger/smaller, other than them not being compatible for some reason).
