Not sure I understand the issue. The head units do not need programming to the car, ie every unit fits in any z4.

If you connect the unit, do you get that disabled message then?

Sorry I’ve not explained it very well
The head unit is the same the only change is the Bluetooth harness that connects to the back of the head unit was not there before and since it’s been fitted the screen displays the word “disabled”

One from eBay it’s from China not a brand as such

Not sure you can, I have only added oem BT modules or Parrots via Aux

you can only have one device connected to the bus, if you have a six cd player between your seat, you must disconnect it

I can't remember but when i brought my intravee (plug in the trunk) I had to unplug my Factory iPod device (plug behind the head unit)
It seems that all device that you plug emulate a cd changer, so you can't have both

Yes to connect this new device to the back of the head unit I had to remove the existing block so it seems almost as if it’s a like for like
