I am still looking :)

I see quite a few Z4s for sale where it mentions this on previous MOTs - corroded brake-pipes - but not a fail.

Why don't people replace them? Are they awkward to get at or something?

Thanks!

Yes awkward to do.
Some garages do the work without dropping the fuel tank which works out cheaper. But it can be expensive.

Thanks for that lightning reply :)

.....ballpark figure from a garage please?

Is it a possible DIY job on axle-stands?

It happens quite often because both rear pipes run under the car and are in a plastic cover until just in front of the rear wheel, and road debris tends to lodge in the end of the cover which leads to corroded pipes.

The pipe for the driver's side then goes across the car between the bulkhead on the rear of the cabin and the fuel tank, and because the BMW pipes come pre-shaped the tank has to be dropped to fit them.

I had them replaced in copper on my 2nd Z4 and the guy that did the job managed to feed the pipe through the clips that support it then shape the pipe afterwards.

It could probably be done on stands by anyone with sufficient DIY skills, but that ruled me out!

And I got lucky because I got them done by a former forum member in the garage at his home, rather than a garage business. :)

This is exactly how I have just done mine, didn't struggle too much until I came to join them under the passengers seat, flaring the end of the original BMW pipe was difficult as it is steel.

Took about 2 hours to do mine.

Yes, that's exactly what the guy who did mine said!
