Fitting USB Socket

Getting very tired of using the cig lighter / 12v charger with an adapter to charge my iPhone - along with the random 'this is not an authorised Apple device' or whatever it is message every so often

Does anyone know what would be involved in retro fitting a USB female socket - or ideally two of them?

Could you just take the feed from behind the 12v cig socket or is this wishful thinking / too simplistic??

Any info appreciated

Like one of these kits? You would still need an inline fuse, but you also can get surface mounted kits (for adding to the panel above the ashtray) or dual kits...

USB normally provides a 5v output, where as the car is 12, so you will need an inline PSU.
Shouldn't be too difficult though.

Mmmm good idea Markeg - if I could get this with surface mount connection this would be ideal - off to do some research :D

Thanks folks

Perhaps combine the 12v to 5v converter supply with something like this? Maplin stock a number of modular systems that may work for what you're after.

No help on the cables but this is how I mounted my Parrot USB and Ipod.

Pick power up in fuse box behind glove box with item similar to this

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Add-A-Circuit-Fuse-Holder-Standard-20amp/dp/1550063146/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1434919638&sr=8-2&keywords=add+a+circuit

Use that to power something like this

There are surface mount sockets also available
