Hi all,
This follows on from a question I had asked in this thread --> https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=124015&p=1868757#p1868757
In Short:
Does anyone have any direct experience running true coilovers at the rear, and did the rear top mount mounting points require strengthening to do this?
In Long:
I have a set of Intrax 1k2 coilovers on my E86M - these were fitted quite some time ago by the original owner. The rears appear to have been supplied originally as true coilovers, however it appears that subsequently they were swapped out to the OE arrangement with a separate Spring & Damper (both spring and damper still being Intrax gear, and spring rate calculated/matched to achieve the same wheel rate as the true coilover set-up).
The Intrax kit is now in dire need of a proper overhaul, so I will be removing these over winter and getting them sent away to be rebuilt. I'm curious and somewhat tempted to revert to the true coilover setup on the rear, but am concerned by anecdotal evidence of cracking the rear top mount mounting point.
Can anyone with direct experience of using true rear coilovers help me out here -
1. Am I worrying unnecessarily, or is this actually a thing to be concerned with?
2. Is there any sort of relatively easily installed/removed reinforcement solution - I'm keen to avoid either cutting out the struts and welding in stronger/thicker turrets, and/or tying it all into a weld in cage....
Thanks in advance!
Ed
