Fitting Non runflats

Hi all,

I know there are many topics on this, but as I am thinking of getting some fitted very soon I wanted to check.

Currently my car is running original rft on the fronts and nrft on the rears. Both need changing soon and I am looking to fit Falken FK452's all round. I can get the tyres delivered and fitted for under £400 which I think is a bargain.

However the garage I plan to use (£10 per tyre fitting and balancing), has recommended that I dont fit Runflat tyres, and he has requested that I sign a disclaimer. He says that if a punchure occurs the tyres will fall within the rims because the rims are different to standard rims? Surely if I get a puncture it will be no worse than a puncture with a normal non runflat tyre?

He also said that I should tell me insurance company that my rears are currently not run flats, Best do as he says, apparently he has heard some horror stories!

Have other people on here done the same??

Kind regards

Told the insurance company - they made a note but no change in my premium. You'll need to re-assure them that the speed rating is the same.

The rim is slightly different - there is a lip around the inside of the wheel, not quite sure about the effect it could have on a puncture though? Some tyre fitters won't fit them at all, because they think it can't be done. The lot I used confirmed that I didn't want run flats (In case I didn't know) and then just got the job done. Am very happy with the change personally :driving:

Yep - this has been covered many times and most garages sadly talk rubbish because they know no better.

The extra lip on a rim designed for non funflats prevents the tyre walking off to the centres of the rim when it's driven deflated. It has no benefit or detriment with standard tyres and there are dozens of users on here who have driven tens of thousands of miles on alternative tyres.

As Pawnsacrifice says make sure your insurance company is aware in writing and there will likley be no change wahtsoever. Mine were just fine about it. If there was ever to be an objection it would be about mixed tyres front and rear that you have now.

As for discalimers. I've heard this but they are just being pedantic. Frankly I'd go somewhere else as £10 is about standard fit and balance price.
