Fitting new battery?

Hi

I'm sure many have undertaken this task but I am yet to do so.

Just got my new Bosch S4 battery through in the post. My car is an 03 plate and during my re map the technician said my battery power was reading low, so I figured a replacement was due for winter.

What's the correct procedure for changing the battery over?

And will it reset any of the digital settings in my car? If so do I need to re programme anything?

I know of previous vehicles a stereo pin has been required after changing the battery.

Any hints/tips/guides would be appreciated please ?!!

I just unplugged my old one and fitted my new one.

Had to reset the one touch windows and the time.

If you have access to another car, you might want to run some jumper cables to the jump point (so the car doesn't lose any power)

If I recall correctly, a few owners had needed a reset after changing their batteries.
 
Do a couple of searches on here... The E85 Zed is one of the last BMW's that doesn't need to be coded by a dealer & the only issue u may have is lost radio stations & to reset windows

Think the only other thing I seem to remember is to leave car to settle after it has run for at least an hour, something to do with possibly upsetting the air bag system.

I simply removed my old battery, touched both car terminals together (not battery of course), fitted a new one & only had to reset my windows, easy peasy lemon squeezy

For what it's worth my battery has been disconnected in excess of 100 times over the last 6 years, since owning the car due to servicing, mods, retrofit, wiring changes, fault clearing, etc.

Each time it loses computer time and zeros out the average fuel.

Not one single other impact ever, so don't worry.
 
For anyone looking to change their battery:

You will need large cross head screw driver + 10mm socket/spanner

1. Expose battery under boot liner.

2. Unscrew x2 screws holding bar across middle of the battery and lift L shape bar/bracket out. There's washers under the screws so careful not to loose them.

3. Remove 3rd screw holding underside lift bracket on positive side of battery. Also on the positive side is a small pipe into side of battery which just pulls out.

4. Negative 1st - loosen 10mm nut and lift clamp off of negative terminal.

5. Positive 2nd - loosen 10mm nut and lift clamp off of positive terminal.

6. There's a plastic panel forming the battery tray, this pulls up and out. You can then slide battery towards you from under the loosened terminals and then freely lift it up and out.

7. You may want to clean the two terminal clamps with some wire wool at this point.

8. Slot your new battery in reversing the above procedure. Make sure it's level and secure and re fix all of parts taken out/off.

**Connect positive first, negative second when new battery is connected (again reverse the steps used to disconnect the battery)

9. Start car, reset your clock :)

Which s4 did you go for? Might need a new one too but noticed, despite looking at s4's only, many off them have different 'cca's? I.e 570, 680 etc which did you go for?

The CCA requirement is dependant upon engine size and auto/manual.

Check the handbook to be sure.
