FITTING MY NEW SEATS HELP NEEDED

Hi guys and gals, got myself a set of Z4M seats and have started to fit them today. Have started with the easy one first (drivers) and have it out but the seats dont arrive until tomorrow. Was glad to see lots of wires in the connector on the seat as the seats in the car are manual (2003 car) . Am hoping when I connect the new one (2007 seat) it will just work unless someone knows different. My firsr embarasing question is I tried to get at the fuses to see if there is one in for the electric seats and cant get the glove box to come on down. Followed the bmw owners manual and it says to push the sides in and it comes down but it does not look like the diagram in the book. Took of the damper but still no joy.Hoe you can help me with this first problem.
But I will have lots of problems I am sure with the passenger seat so I will I am sure be asking lots of stupid questions.
Would I be right in saying if I disconnect the battery before starting the passenger seat and when I reconnect again I will not get the air bag light. I know I will have to change or bluff the seat sensor before I re-connect.
Thanks
Ray

IIRC the wiring is different between pre and post facelift with regard to the seat occupancy pad which will cause an AirBag light to come on if not sorted before you put the ignition on.

Do a search to see who had this trouble and drop them a PM.

From memory think it was Chris or Christurbo

Disconnect the battery before 15 mins before you pull the seat connectors off. This may help in the air bag light not coming on. thats what I did but I do have an 06 plate so think some of the connectors are different. Chris rescently did the same retrofit your hoping to do. think there is a link some where

dellboy - you're going to have fun here...lol

The glovebox does just need the sides pushing in. Second time you do it you'll realise how easy.

If you took the drivers seat out and did not have the battery disconnected you've already tripped the airbag system as it's also a part of the seatbelt tensioner, so probably have reset to do. You MUST have the battery disconnected for the entire time the seats are out and for your own safety when connecting and disconecting them

Next you need to identify what you had before and now in terms of manual/electric, heated or not and then ensure the composite connector in your car has all the sections to match. You may need more bits of loom or just have unwanted spares.

Once you get this one done then onto the passenger seat and Chris is your friend having done this occupancy sensor (which I thankfully did not need to do)

Oh Bull, did not think the driver seat would effect the airbag light. Not really worried about the heated seat side of things just want the position adjusters to work (havent even told the wife about the heated seats bit or she would want it to)

Got the seats today and plugged drivers in and it is working fine so have been lucky with the airbag light as it has not come on even after starting the car although I have not driven it but I would think if light was going to come on it would have done by now.
Now I have to work out the passenger one which I am sure it will give hassle.
Have no doupt I will be back for more advice (stay on stand by Chris) lol

Glad that worked out then  The warning light would come on as soon as you turned on the ignition so all good.

Now I am stuck, have the passenger seat out and am trying to get the sensor out , have been able to loosen it under the leather but it seem to go under a bar or something half way down the seat.or I should say I have loosened the plastic that looks like a computer ribbon cable if that makes sense. Have searched the old threads to see if anyone has taken it out but cant find it so if anyone can help me I would appreciate it.
Also does anyone know which connector you use on the new seat (07) as there are at least 2 connectors on it but not able to work that out as all the wires seem to go under the seat. What I am hoping to do is get the sensor out of the old seat and just connect it to the new seat without putting it under the leather (just dont want to risk damaging the seat)
Thanks

Took about a week for my airbag light to come on after I fitted my new seats. Are you trying to fit your old occupancy sensor to the new seats or something?

You know the occupancy mat is an actual mat? Its not a small sensor so will take a bit to remove it. But connection wise, it goes to the same connector the old mat goes to, so only fits one plug so you cant get it wrong

Yea my plan is to remove the old sensor and just put it under the new seat but not doing any sensing and use the black box from the old seat as well. Cant figure out how to get the old mat out or which wires to remove on the new seat so as to disconnect the new seat mat. Chris seems to thing that there is only one connector on the new seat that will fit the old black box (if I am reading you right Chris). The wire colours coming from the old mat are blue and white but can anyone tell me the colours of the new mat wires and I can trace it back to the plug. Have disconnected the battery before starting so am hoping when all is done and re-connected no air bag lights. Have contacted the guy on ebay who sells modules which do the same thing and am waiting for him to get back to me aswell but if I could get the old sensor out would save me a few quid. I saw a thread somewere on here I think like a step by step guide on how to remove a mat but cant find it now

So why are you bothering if it wont be working? Just get a bypass off ebay.

And using the old black box, that will just plug into the loom, not into the new seat mat. As thats where the bypass would go.

You can see the new seat mats wires running down the back of the seat, and then unplug that from the loom (under seat connector, black and yellow block) , take the black box and wire from the previous loom and stick it in the new loom, then use either your old seat mat or ebay bypass. Job done. Or fit the old seat mat into new seat, so everything works as before.

Hope this makes sense

Hi Chris, really sorry for being a pest  , yes that is my plan A use the old mat B use the bypass module, just not sure which connector to disconnect. There is a blue connector and a black connector and they look the same connections so not sure if I disconnect both and just use one of the with my black box or just use one of them and what one.
S--t scared of connecting the wrong thing and poping something.

You are confusing me

Basically the new seats mat plug straight into the black/yellow connector under the seat. And the old seats go from the seat mat to the black box then to the black/yellow connector.

So unplug both from the black yellow connector, and plug the old connection into the new seats. Whether you use old seat mat or bypass you still need the wire and black box from your old seats. Easy

Sure what else would we do on a sat night except talk about my woooes, Hopefully I have attached a photo of the seat but you will see the blue connector on the new seat and my black box from the old seat will plug into it but on the old seat there are 3 wires going into the black box from the main big connector but on the new seat blue connector there is only 2 wires, do you remember this with yours

Edited so much for adding the photo CANT EVEN GET THAT RIGHT

Here is your pic, plus a pic of the seat mat, so you know hoe big it is to take out. Well think this is from an E36, but will be roughly the same, and with the black wire, which is the old type.

Thanks Chris, you are one in a million, Than is a decision old seat mat is not coming out. I have sent you a reply to your e-mail as I am getting embarased about my silly questions.
Will let you all know how I get on when I get the bypass module.
