Fitting Msport seats to an early Z4

I am looking at upgrading my 2003 Z4 seats. I currently have the standard black leather with electric adjusted & heated seats but I would like to upgrade them to the msport black leather with electric adjusted & heated seats. I have been eyeing up the msport seats for a while but have been focusing on making sure the Z is in good driveable condition.

I have tried to look around on the forum to find out if it is possible and what I would need to do to fit the seats but it has been difficult to find anything for my situation (most seem to be adding in the electric options). There seems to be a lot of conflicting information about if it's possible and what you need to do. The most useful post I have found is; https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopi...2DCh91Io6pV8Eoa_dw_aem_iXkoykDs33PJoZfHxwX_VA
This suggests I need a bypass unit to get the occupancy sensor to work in the passenger seat. I have also seen/heard that the pre-facelift Z4 models don't have the same electrical connector as the facelift for the seats so they aren't compatible if I get the seats off a facelift car. I have spoken to my local parts guy who I am sure is on the forum & he said that Z4s made before 09/2003 (which mine is earlier) need a 2-wire mod to get the electric functions to work I think.

Is there a way to avoid messing around with the electrics & still have full functionality? I have had issues with the airbag light for my first 2 years of Z4 ownership & have now been without it for nearly a year so I don't want to create an electrical issue.

If anyone has any experience & knowledge or knows of any forum pages that address this, I would be extremely grateful if you could share it.

Hi,
If you manage to find pre-facelift ones it should be a straight swap. Facelift ones have the same connector but different electronics for the passenger seat occupancy sensor. To cope with that you have two options: A bypass module or changing the occupancy sensor mat to a pre-facelift one (plus using the electronics module from you old seat).

I put facelift seats in a pre-facelift and used a bypass but it was a bit tempremental I found. In the end I just coded out the occupancy sensor

I installed facelift on my pre-facelift Z4, yes you need to get a passenger occupancy emulator, but swap over the seat belt tensioners and you need to code the car to switch off the seatbelt reminder.

Thanks all for sharing, I am keeping an eye out for pre-facelift seats but there don't seem to be many around. I think I will try to avoid having to do any coding as I struggled to code the airbag unit I was trying to replace earlier this year.
Also sorry for the delayed reply, its been a busy Christmas
