fitting mud flaps

Hi, My wife has just picked up her new z4 (after 3 mx5's). I bought a set of front and rear mud flaps for it from a dealer in Germany. Does anyone have fitting instructions? The fronts are on - easy, but it looks like half the car needs stripped to fit the rears? TIF

Your local dealer should be able to e-mail you a pdf of the fitting instructions off their system. The dealer fitted mine front and rears at the pdi but I cant imagine they are that hard to fit. I've done a couple of E87s and my current M135i and the fixing points for the rears are usually the inner arch screw points and one under the bumper. The dealer emailed me the instructions.

Are you going to paint your mud flaps , Ryebrook Warwick did not advise it saying as they are very flexible the paint comes off .Our e89 officially is the wife's car and she has had three MX5 's great little cars , prefer the Zed though :driving:

She really enjoyed the MX5's. Her last one was a metallic white sport black. They gave us a absolutely no trouble apart from rusty wheel nuts every year.(which were changed under warranty) We were going to go for the new MX5, but they will only be a manual soft top initially. The Z4 is a new adventure. I'm not going to paint the flaps. The fronts were easy to put on, but the rears have a number of screws and clips that go through the wheel arch liner. However on one side the wheel arch liner has a heat shield, so it looks as if you need to take a lot apart to get the screws/clips in. I'm sure BMW would not make it that difficult, which is why I was looking for the original instructions.

Hello Fondelli.
I found myself in the same position recently.
You will need to remove the rear wheel. Hold the mud flap in position this will allow you to work out what screws need removing. Remove necessary screws and loosely fit mud flap. Stick some masking tape or something similar to the inner arch behind the mudflap to allow the marking of the positions of the 3 large clips. Mark with pen. Remove mud flap. Cut a slit about 1 cm long in the inner arch to allow you to fit the clips in the appropriate positions. Fit mud flap. Mark the position of the final small clip (this is the worrying bit as this hole will need drilling). Remove flap and drill hole. Fit small clip. Refit mud flap final time.
I found it easier to make the clips a bit looser by springing the clip apart a bit.
This is all from memory. If you are not sure take it the local dealer.
I hope its helpful.
Regards

Hi Fondelli, do you have the part number? And cost? What about posting a fitted picture coz I have never seen a Zed with them on. Andy.

Sorry- I haven't. I found the part numbers on the net and ordered them from a BMW dealer in Germany. It saved me about £80 even taking into account the postage. I threw the receipts etc out- but google is your friend
