Fitting heated steering wheel

Hi all,

I've searched on the forums but can't find anything on this but I'm sure it's been discussed before! :headbang:

Is it possible to fit a heated steering wheel to a 2011 Z4? Are all the electrics required already fitted?

Also wondering about cost. I guess it'll be a new shroud for the switch as well as steering wheel.

Anyone out there done this before? Any help much appreciated!

Cheers.

Andy.

For once, I've no idea.

I bet it's a good deal more expensive than a pair of gloves though.

LOL, I'm sure it is but it's a nice to have, especially in this country. I'm hoping someone out there may have done this but it's looking unlikely. :(

This would be nice in the E85 too. When ever i can i have the roof down, the only issue i find is cold hands

As an after market mod the electrics would not be too hard. A switch to enable a relay which then feeds the steering wheel. The problem would be adapting the steering wheel

Don't forget the thermostat - or is it built into the wheel?

Oh yes, BMW had a competition to see who could put the switch in the most illogical position possible so that you can't see it. If you're starting from scratch it wouldn't take much to improve it's location..................

There seems to be a lot parts you need (stalks) coming from the states but I don't know if they are compatible with European cars. As they only started doing heated steering in 2012, I assume there is no wiring fitted to Z's pre 2012. This could prove costly if I have to add additional wiring to the car. If this is the case, this will be a no-go!

If anyone knows anything about this being done pre 2012 E89 model, I'd be very interested to know how it was done!

Cheers!

I've not seen this done as a retrofit. And I scour forums for all things e89 and s205 much to the annoyance of HWMBO.

 I may have to write this one off.

Oh well.
