Does anybody have a link for fitting new lowering springs. I've had a good look round but can't seem to find anything. The rears seems to be pretty easy and quick but no info for the fronts :(

Also what's the ride like on 19's after lowering 30mm.?? From what I've seen so far it sounds good.

Thanks guys

There is a guide on here somewhere.

Having done the job I can tell you its pretty easy.

Rears you undo the bottom shock bolt and lever the spring out, I used a tyre lever as it has an upturned end.

The fronts have 3 bolt at the top, and 3 at the hub and it just drops out.

Removing the spring requires the use of a spring compressor. The nut can be a pig, but if you have a battery powered impact gun or an air gun it should just buzz off. I'd change the top mount rubbers while you have it in bits, just to be on the safe side, and as you already have it in bits it seems silly not to.

A lot of people say you MUST have geo done after fitting. I took my M straight in for geo after I did mine and it was spot on, no adjustments needed.

With regards to wheel alignment after fitting, you need to leave it to settle fkr a couple of weeks/ few hundred miles.

Taking it in straight away could cause you to get incorrect readings.

Nice one Steve thanks for that

How are you finding the ride since you've fitted them.?

Rides a little firmer but I don't find it objectionable. Easier to catch the front bumper on heavily cambered roads if your going a little to quick.

I also forgot to mention the bolt for the ARB.

I found it a pain to line up, so jacked up the other side of the car which took the pressure off the ARB and gave me the wiggle room I needed.

It had about 100 miles put on them and 3 weeks of just sitting in my garage before I had it done.......I don't entirely agree with the few hundred miles thing.
In my experience, once the car is on its springs, and been given a short drive the car should have settled. If you paid a garage to do the job they would fit them and do the alignment in the same day.

Well I'm no pro but the old man was, will do an update thread re my disaster of a weekend! I have fitted the pro kit today and it was a bitch! :headbang:

Back are so easy but the fronts :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

It started when we clocked that the 5 sets of clamps did bugger all in terms of being able to shrink the springs enough to lock them to the struts . Just putting springs on has taken hours.

The other part is the travel on the top mounts on both front struts seem to be impossible to pull in and out without sinking! This made it impossible to do the job quickly.

I need to do some more research but my thoughts are that both my front shocks are dead! Maybe someone can tell me if I'm wrong but from top we could only get 7 inches max out of the shock before it would sink back in!

I found it pritty easy as long as you have the right set of spring compressors. My first set I tried was useless so had to reassemble everything and get another set. One of my shocks looked like it might be on its last legs before I fitted the springs but has now blown it's seals after lowering so I'm just deciding weather to upgrade to bisltines as there meant to be able to take lowering springs.

The garage I used for wheel alignment said they wouldn't do it without driving it first.

Didn't dispute for a moment that you should drive it first, I just don't accept the forum belief that it needs to be hundreds of miles. Spin round the block should suffice.

Sounds like the shocks have had it.

I used the compressors to remove the old springs, but the new springs didn't need them. I just got my able assistant to push down on the top mount while I did the nut up, but my shocks didn't retract themselves while I did it!!!

This isn't just forum belief, springs to take time to settle

It takes no time at all to settle - simply a wee drive, as recommended by my indy. Then aligned the next day. It's just an internet myth - my car was the same height after 10mins as it was a few hundred miles later.

I have read that in loads of places that springs dont settle as the are pre compressed etc But the first time i got in my car after it was lowered i noticed it... Drove home (25 miles) and didnt scrape the curb on my slope. When to work a couple of days and then it started catching the curb midweek and has ever since... So i can only presume after a couple of days my car settled.

Or maybe my bumper dropped
