Fitting CP600BMW in Z4 cup holder slot

Hello All,

I have been looking for an mp3 solution for my Z and have happily settled on the CP600BMW.

It is on its way so in preparation, instead of mounting it near the CD changer, i am looking at what it will take to fit it into the useless cup holder slot in the dash. The dimensions look about right but i wont know until it is in hand.

So i'm needing some assistance with the cabling and the mounting. Is there a loom i can order that will run the two cables i need direct to the head unit ? What about the DSP cable ? Does anybody know what type of connector that is ? Can i get that cable from somewhere ?

Had anybody fitted an Intravee or similar with DSP into the dash ?

The DSP cable is a SMB connector (50ohm).
I didn't need the dsp cable to install (although i have hifi professional DSP in a 4/2004 z4).
My cd changer is connected to the normal analog connector (P on the cd600)
I also couldn't get the digital interlink to work (I tried). I made a 50ohm smb cable between the cp600 and the apmlifier in the boot which has the same connector under the large connector. So maybe the input is disabled on my amp (or broken). BMW has an official cable for this connection too (but i dont think that'll work either in my car)
I dont know if it fits in the cupholderslot (I installed mine in the cdchanger space).
afaik there's no ready made bmw cable loom to extend the ibus and analog signalcable from ie. the back of the radio, but there is a retrofit cdchanger set (with cable):

I don't know if the cable is long enough and where it's plugged in.

Thanks for your reply Guido. SMB connector is the vital piece of info i wanted.

The player arrived yesterday. Seems to work ok but will only get a chance to try it in the cup holder on the weekend.

If i can extend the DSP cable, i'm sure i can find an iBus under the dash there somewhere.

In the mean time i am now searching for a suitable extension lead. Thanks very much for your help.

Is your cd changer already connected to the amp with a smb lead?
Or does it also use the analog cable?

The CD stacker is only connectd by the 3-wire iBus cable and the coax dsp cable (SMB).

That 6-wire connector for the analog audio that i hear about is not present at all in my car.
