Fitting an M-Sport wheel

Hi all, new forum member and Z4 owner here. I have the basic 2006 facelift 2.0 SE and I am already keen to upgrade a few things. The car has the plastic steering wheel which I am not a fan of. I've seen an m-sport leather steering wheel on eBay which I like the look of. It doesn't come with the airbag/centre cover, and I am wondering if the currently airbag/cover fitted to my SE spec wheel would be compatible. Can anyone tell me? Thanks very much! - Paul

Welcome to the forum. Some pics and an intro in the Newbies section would be good

I didnt know that zeds came with a plastic wheel, I thought they were all leather :?

The airbag centre part is a straight swap

Thanks Adamski,

I'll write something up in the newbies section. I am not that far away from you in Coatbridge, east of Glasgow.

I managed to win a new m-sport leather wheel for £180 on eBay. Is this a job you've had done on your own car? If so, did you do it yourself?

Cheers,

Paul

Yeah I fitted M sport wheel on mine. Did it myself.

You'll need a cross head screw driver to push down the holes either side of the steering wheel at the 10 and 2 positions. That pops the airbag off. Make sure you disconnect the battery for 20 mins before you start.

The wiring clips on the airbag come off, then take the wheel off, swap for the new one, then reconnect everything.

I took over an hour, but had a mishap with some wires. Watch you don't pull the plastic centre off the surround of the column. Some flat wires will pop out, which are tricky to get back in
