Just curious to know if an E39 M5 V8 would fit in my Z4MC taking into consideration gearbox and back axle/diff etc.
And obviously room in the engine bay.
:driving:

its been done but must cost a fortune to do!

Go for it :)

This could be the ultimate Z4 in the making!

:driving:

Although, would you not be better off with a donor Zed to start? Rather than picking apart a good one - given it'll need most of the chassis and running gear upgrading.

It's been done with that engine (S62) several times before, have no idea what would be required to do it though.

A few examples of Z4's with the E39 V8 engine:

Birds Auto have a price quoted up on their website for a BMW Z4 3.0 to e39 M5 V8 engine conversion including brakes, suspension, wheels etc...via Hartge, and it's £64.5k!

Thank you for everybodys replies. I am going to ask my specialist what the cost will be. :driving:

I'll bet £5 you don't get it done

 +1 but we can all fantisize! :)

That ZF gearbox won't take the torque I don't think. Why not an E90 M3 V8. Its a much smaller and lighter unit (read somewhere that it only weight 20kg more than the S54 straight 6.)

Best of luck :driving:

It's actually 15kg lighter than the old M3 engine!

Another vid of Michael Bader driving the the Z4 8cyl. This time he actually gets passed once or twice.
