Fitting a b12 kit - few questions

Hello all,

So my b12 kit arrived today and I've started doing a bit to get it fitted. Ive had the front right strut and mounts out and have just put the first strut and spring together.

However the one that I've put together now has absolutely 0 flex in it and feels totally rigid. I can't move it myself at all. Is this how it should be or have I done something wrong? I have done the top bolt up with an air impact wrench without holding the allen key in place. Could this have had an effect?

Thanks, so no compression at all they felt totally rigid?

Just taken the bloody thing apart again now ha. Does flex when on the car then?
 
I've got the B12 Kit on my Alpina and its a great ride. Crack on and then test drive it !
 
I had b12 kit fitted 6 months ago an the rides much better... well worth the money. However I paid indy to fit mine & now have a metallic dink coming from the rear left or right when going over uneven surface?

I have the same kind of noise as well. I have tried quite a few things to sort it but so far no luck. If you work ou what it is please let me know :thumbsup:
 
Did you fit new rubber top mounts, am sure some people have mentioned these , they won't be part of a kit I'll see if I can find a thread
 
I'm reusing the rubber bits and top plate of the old shocks and km replacing the strut mounts too.

I've been following a YouTube video of some guys fitting a set to an e46 and after he's put the shock together it has a little flex in it with weight on whereas I can't flex mine at all it feels totally rigid.
 
Eibach Springs on stock dampers were still preloaded enough not to be compressed by even my weight, so couple that with a Bilstein B8 damper and you've got no chance of compressing it.
 
Excellent thanks I will get it onto the car and crack on with the other side!

I'm not looking forward to trying to access the rear mounts :cry:

Don't worry, 5 minute job, I did mine a couple
Of weeks a go.

I'll write you a how to tomorrow nights if you can wait till then? I'll take some pics as a step by step.

Ahh that sounds OK I'm sure I read somewhere 3 hours.

3 hours is way over the top, it's only 6 plastic clips, 4 bolts and 2 plastic rivets to get the whole read shelf out the car mate, I'll get you a step by step tomorrow :thumbsup:
 
Ahh it's never easy is it! Lower strut bolt has snapped, same as the guy whos video I was watching. Unsure whether to try and drill it out myself or to try and drop the whole assembly out of the car and take it off to get it drilled.

Is this on the rear or front?
 
So I managed to get it all off and to a local place to have the bolt drilled out and retapped. Strut and springs and everything all put back together fine. However when separating the ball joints on the wishbone and tie rod the rubber boots have gotten mangled and ripped up.

Does anyone know what sizes they are to replace? I could just replace the wishbones and tie rods but don't really have the spare cash this month and think the lollipop bushes are still OK.
