Fitted new seats

Just fitted new seats into my 35is. Got rid of the horrid uncomfortable sports stock seats. Super pleased and these are far more supportive.

Will try and get some better pictures.

Wow - they look great, very supportive looking  Compliment the paintwork too. Were the seats you replaced 'M Sports' seats?

Each to there own I guess, personally they aren't my taste at all, and assuming you have lost the things that Maniac has asked, I wouldn't be going down this route , however I do understand the need for comfort and if this option fulfils your needs then, that's more important for you. Brave move . Hope you are happy and enjoy the car now more than your uncomfortable seats .

Manic. Yes lost the electric memory, had no heat, and lost the side seat airbag. But I am the only one who drives the car so no big loss there for me.

It was a choice between selling the car or changing the seats really for me. I have a minor hip issue and the Z4 really aggravates it. Funnily enough the hip thing was never apparent until my first Z4 2 years ago. I am a bit of a petrol head and dont have the issue in any other cars I have or have had hence the change.

The Z4 pound for pound is a superb car and I want to keep this one for a few years so I may as well get it right. Few more clearer pictures attached.

Making the sub frames took hours!!!!!!!

Those seats look ace , my biggest complaint of the Z4 is the seats

Did you have to notify insurance company with the change of seats ?

Would really like some aftermarket one which keep the air bags , the BMW performance ones are crazy priced

They look very comfortable and supportive but not so keen on the Corbeau logos, harness cut-outs or the quilting. I really like your gloss back alloys against the Valencia Orange paintwork though!

Yes there are three issues that will all flag up as a combination of the original seats being removed and trigger warning lights

1 - The seat belt pre-tensioners.

Solution - Just removed the seat belt buckle and installed that on the new seat base and plugged it in.

2- Both seat side airbags are missing so the car can find them and assume there faulty.

Solution. On the plug on the floor that remains establish which pins relate to the airbag, the last two on the far side. Insert a 4.7ohm 1/2 wat resistor from Maplins, 9 pence each!! into the 2 pins (I made a tiny patch cable.). This emulates the feedback given by the missing airbag.

3 - The seat pad that detects when the seat is occupied in the original seats are now obviously missing.

Solution. Insert a seat pad emulator. £30 a side.

Reset the fault codes and good to go.

Thanks for the info , I'll bet the support is like night and day to the stock seats ?
